COUNTRY IS SAFE BECAUSE OF WELL MEANING PEOPLE
by Brig J S Ahuja on Jun 29, 2005 01:07 PM  Permalink

There is no doubt that it was the darkest period of Indian democracy, a blot and a matter of shame on all Indians who had failed in their judgement in electing such irresponsive politicians . It all started with the system of nomination developed to elect the leader of the house .Jawahar Lal Nehru became the first PM by this process . Had there been by proper election amongst the MPs , the history would have been different . His daughter became the worst and dismantled all the institutions of the democratic system. They virtuall became the rulers of this great country.

There is a very little ray of hope that we as a nation will have a proper democracy run by responsible people.

Emergency & the Darkest Era of Indian Politics!
by Gigimon M.V. on Jun 29, 2005 12:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi Rediff,

It is 100% true that the Emergency Period declared by Mrs. Gandhi was one of the darkest eras of Indian History. But, in my opinion, it was not as darkest as that of Mr. Modi's Reign in Gujarat and religious riots. I am not justifying the Emergency, but Mrs. Gandhi was not as Mad or Maniac as that of Mr. Modi. He was only a Chief Minister and such a public violence by the Gundas supported by a truly elected State Goverment may be the first of its kind in Indian History. Please tell as how do you say that "the people of India know the true value of Democracy, Mr. Modi was re-elected just after the riots."

Best Regards,

Gigimon M.V.

U get the reply in the statement itself.... That means people of Gujrat feel that Modi is just being framed by the so called secular parties hand in hand with the media. As simple as that. Try and understand that whatever is shown to you need not always be the correct thing.

Whatever is shown need not be true... but there are somethings that can't be hidden forever... such as the dark face of the Gujarat CM. And dat he was elected again doesnt mean that what he did was right...

Chandramouli's article
by DR Rao on Jun 29, 2005 11:55 AM  Permalink

Why does rediff always give incomplete picture of any such incidents?

From this article, should we consider that all was right except Congress at the time of declaring emergency?

Shold we conclude that only the then Gujarat administratise services had the humanity and other sophisticated nature?

Should we understand that Congress is again back to power despite all bad eliments in it?

Hope rediff will be more matured enough to play a better press role.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your opinion...and rediff's effort to bring views forward to readers..I think this is a lesson for all voters as well as politicians that power in hands of an ambitious mind can kill a beautiful concept like democracy... sorry for using the word concept.... as this denotes idea... anything... any idea...is agaist freedom... because all ideas finally bring structure...way of living..more than a way..it is a rule forlivig...freedom is lost... the structure of democracy itself kills freedom...so flocks..let people be let be...leave them... they will live...please do not try to rule them....

Love
Rajesh

Too good!!!!!!!!!!!
by Mukund S Kale on Jun 28, 2005 01:51 PM  Permalink

The article was great, Sir. But how come you realised all these things 30 years later. Its really funny that the conscience of all the bureaucrats come alive only after their retirement. Why didn't you resign protesting the then governments atrocities? Come on, there was no stoppage on resigning of authorities. The govt won't have hanged you, if you had resigned. Forget it, Sir, even you know that we Indians always needed & need a Emergency. Because, no matter how advanced we become, we'll always behave like animals. The best example are the Gujrat riots & prior to that the Babri riots. We are beasts and we HAVE to be controlled. Now, coming back to the basic question of Emergency, let me inform you that the opposition was funded by the US administration at that time, the same way the US is doing in Venezuela. Infact, the US was taking a revenge on India, for caring a damn about them during the Bangladesh War. Thatz the reason, the US administration wanted to finish off Indira at any cost. If you do not know history, please dont comment on it. And if you are trying to shield someone, dont use these heavy words like Conscience and all, becuz they dont suit you.
