It is a good gesture and affords an opportunity to those who have chosen citizenship of other country to remember and serve his / her motherland. It also enjoins upon those who opt for it the right of a regular citizen of India, may be with some conditions.
On its part, Government should be spontaneous and should consider it as another means to extract money from NRI's.
While it may be a good idea to allow dual citizenship to persons of Indian origin, Govt of India cannot allow persons holding Pakistani citizenship to get Indian citizenship as well. As on 15th. August 1947, all persons who opted to stay back in Pakistan were eligible to become Indian citizens, had they come into India. At this point in time to grant them Indian citizenship will be a disaster. Govt of India should clearly define the countries from where such persons are eligible. Same goes for the erstwhile East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. If this distinction is not adopted, it will be a national disaster !!
Having just read our Prime Minister announcing Dual Citizenship, would this apply to people born in previous Britissh Colonies and then residing in the U.K and eventually shifting the residence in India on five year multiple visas. Are this category entitled for dual citizenship?
Just heard the good news, once an Indian always an Desi. But unfortunately, it is only for some people, meaning those countries which do allow. I think it is unfair, I would like to urge the Indian government officials to start a discourse with those nation that are kind of backward on this issue, for example denmark.
I had to make changes to suit the enviroment including my nationality, as many who had to accomodate the circumstantial problems but it does not make me less of Indian, I am more Indian than many, I should say. My blood ties are back home....home where my roots are, that makes me what I am.
I implore the like minded people to take up a discouse and implore our politicians to take up the initiative.
