every newspaper editor is naive & stupid. advani's statement was well-intended for bjp on the eve of the forthcoming elections. Togadia's response is equally addressed in the same vein. bjp's shrewdness should never be underestimated.
Interesting piece but why a victim of partition who had done so much to articulate the legitimate Hindu/nationalist sentiment and build the BJP all these years should do this ? Advani has certainly damaged the Hindu/nationalist cause by showering praise on one of the biggest mass murderes in history. It is well known that Jinnah's nationalist phase was over by 1920-21. If Advani was trying to upstage Vajpayee it has failed miserably. So called peace-process is a hoax and gibberish.
I won't buy the argument that it was an ISI trap.There is something else in it ? Advani must think of exorcising this adulation of Jinnah.
B. Raman writes as if Advani is a complete fool and let himself be cajoled into making the statment. Its a ridiculus way of thinking on Mr Raman's part. Will a person of Mr Advani's stature let himself be flattered and then let himself into making a statement like that? Whatever he did, it was knowing fully well the consequences. Lets give him his due respect even if we don't like what he said rather than thniking that he's become naive enough to be coaxed into saying or doing something by others.
Really it is well thought and written and i think it should be very close to reality but can't say much as i don't have in depth knowledge of the subject but if what you have written is true than it is really it is a matter of shame for not only BJP or Hinudtva group I think it is a humiliation for all those who suffered in partition because of Jinnah, which also include all the muslims also both in India and Pak.
I am quite amazed as to how much old history we can all rake up to justify our own line of thinking. I mean the horrors of partition are old hat. Yet all of us seem to live in the past. I look at Europe where the UK and Germany bombed each other to the ground, they fought 2 bitter world wars and yet today the EU is a borderless prosperous economic block. How long before the young stand up and say let us look to the future and make a strong, economic India which leads the World. As for blaming Jinnah or Modi or anyone for rioting and killing, let us also remember that it was thoudands of regular Indians who hacked their own country men and women to death. The devil is within us all, politicians just know how to fan it. Let us all exorcise this devil within and look to a bright future.

to compare jinnah and narendra modi itself is unfair. history is that of the victor. like how arjun singh and dr. M.M.Joshi kept changing the history with the change in government. the comparisions of personalities should be fair and not playing to the gallery. Jinnah never won a popular vote. However, Modi despite all said and done has won at the hustings. The Supreme Court is still investigating the matter of teesta setalvad and zahira. rediff articles are known for their balance. dont change the rule.
One should have courage to study history without any grudge in mind. The British history of India is not 100% correct. Instead of useing Jinnah, have Britishers used Mr. Gandhi?
Why did the person who fought the cases of Lokamanya Tilak and Shahid Bhagat singh earlier, suddenly changed his mind ? Was he a scape goat(like Mr. Subhash Bose or Sardar Patel) of Mr.Gandhi's and Mr. Nehru's politics ? One needs to throw light on such issues.
