Mumbai's indomitable spirit
by Andrew Williams on Jul 29, 2005 08:56 PM  Permalink

Now that the flood waters have subsided I think its the right time to say something -
"Me mumbaikar" has an indomitable spirit but enough is enough.Every damn politician in his ever condescending tone of salutation congratulates people of mumbai for their spirit - point is we dont want your salutations any more , we want facillities.Shanghai is a pipe dream but Mumbai is the reality where disaster control was nothing more of a joke.
This takes us to the challenge which I would like to throw open to the Maharashtra government. In July 2005 the government managed to get through via the excuse that this is an unprecedented amount of rainfall.
What if we have simmilar rainfall in July 2006 ? Will our disaster management measure be ready to take on a simmilar disaster in 2006.
This is a challenge to the government to turn this city around in the next one year at least in terms of getting us ready for 1000 mm of rainfall if it ever occurs.
Maybe next year the common mumbaikar will congratulate the government of Maharashtra for their "indomitable spirit".Till then I remain sorely disgusted with a government that easily could be from any party.
Wake up you politicians!Wake up!

Bombay Incidents
by pinak on Jul 29, 2005 06:24 PM  Permalink

Two tregic incidents happened in Bombay during last few days. One is the severe flood and the second one is related to fire incident in Bombay High.It happened never before in independent India as well as in the history of Bombay.I really feel sorry to hear about those incidents. But wht do you people say about this?Recently after Dance Bars were banned in Bombay all those things happened. In the 21st century also we treat girls as DEVIS in our country.I think these are nothing but curse of the DEVIS(Whom normal people call as bar-dancers).But we should not neglect girls in India anymore.

pray
by radhika on Jul 29, 2005 12:26 PM  Permalink

Hello friends,

I can very well understand if one person of the family is dead , how hard it is for the family to cope up with it. I have myself experienced it in childhood and pray to nature god to stop this brutal attack on us.
Sitting abroad and reading these horrifying stories is much terrible. In practical it has been worst than expectation.
Its so fantastic that we mumbaikars have been so helpful to eachother . In sucha a calamity also we have kept calm and helped every single person as far as possible.

Radhika.

Mumbaikars risked lives to help
by vinod kumar on Jul 29, 2005 11:36 AM  Permalink

While man\'s inhumanity to man is being reflected more and more in natural calamities, there are instances when people forget about their lives to reach out to others. Compassion and love are what will separate the grain from the chaff ........... Yoga and reiki are universal techniques to attain inner purity so as to reflect Divine Love and Light in our lives and share it with others.....

Mumbai havoc
by Satyanarayana on Jul 29, 2005 11:31 AM  Permalink

i have been reading incidents on this portal narrated by so many flood hit people over the last three days.
While the incidents themselves have been horrifying, the tales of bravery and human values that have surfaced are great and heart soothing and makes me continue the belief in humanity and morality.
Hats off to the poeple who risked their lives to save their own mumbaikars who in a way were strangers.
I sincerely hope admin. takes note of allthese things and the business capital of India comes back to normalcy as soon as possible as well as proper facilities and arrangements are made to take care of such situations in future.
