Use of Technology
by Giri Girishankar on Aug 03, 2005 09:28 PM  Permalink

Edusat is an outstanding example of exploiting technology in important sectors of development to cover vast tracts of the population. Cell telephones are another example.

The universalization of education among India's billion-plus population, 35 per cent of which is illiterate, is no mean task. Conventional approaches would have taken a massive effort and yet would have been slow and inefficient. ISRO deserves to be congratulated on its pursuit of the Edusat project and the success thereof. India can be proud of its purposeful application of technology.

This Report prompts me to visualize a time when Primary School children of India will be able to receive effective civics education including sanitation and hygiene; community health; traffic rules, regulations and safety; functioning of transportation facilities; national security etc., through the audio-visual medium, provided by the interactive satellite based distance education system.

Dear President

We are extremely pleased to note the edusat idea and implementation. Our family is starting a education support infrastructure at Talbeed/dist Satara in Maharastra. We are very much interested to know more and set up edusat center at our village for the benefit of children. We already have a building in place.

We will implement the scheme and ceter and report back to you.

Best regards
Vikram

Edusat

Sounds very interesting and exciting. It is excellent news for all who are interested in educating themselves one way or the other. It is very commendable that this project aims to cover the whole nation. Here in the UK the local schools and colleges are still struggling to set IT inclusive programs. In London VLE sounds like a shot in the dark. COngratulations President Abdul Kalam. And good luck!!

A revolution in India education
by Ravindra Y.P on Jul 29, 2005 03:15 PM  Permalink

It is an excellent step towards Indian rural education
improvement. If it reaches the whole rural villages
then definitely we all move a mile. Being the second
populated country in the world need to be the second
place in world economy too. I found this is the
first step in improving our country's wealth. Thanks
to those who directly or indirectly contributed to
this project. I beg to all our politicians 'please
don't use this project for making money for your
party',let every body in the country be in the same
page and learn more, educate our self to make our country rich.
