Some of my collegues who left yesterday evening are still , yes still on the way to there home. Its around 12 hours since they have left.
My cousin who left nariman point yesterday at around 5 is still on the way ..
Well , but mumbai as usual continues to run n run , It has proved once again that its the most hard working city in India.
Well , Hope everyone reaches his /her place safely.
better late than never....

Stranded for Life!
by Sachin Ghodke on Jul 27, 2005 05:12 AM  Permalink

This has been the wrost monsoon season I have experienced since coming the Bombay in 1984. The high handed promises of BMC surely holds water (pun intended). Right now I am stuck in my office with few of my colleagues.

We had to wait for nearly 1.15 hours at a restaurant to have food. And the weather being what it is, we couldn't help our selves to a dash to warm our souls.

It took 2.30 hours to finish our dinner. The small not so busy restaurant and bar had the best and worst season of them all.

Some of my colleagues valiently tried to reach home only to reaslise that they were against a fury unknown to them. Wisely returned back. Now joking and shareing an immensely witty sabbitcal from home. Now we wonder would our superiors who reached home come back to office today. Simply, and hopefully, no.

We even tried calling the Central Railway help desk to ask of the availibility of the trains for us to reach home. A brave and unceasing answer greeted us - "Only when the rains stop, take a wild guess".

Such is our state of enthusiasm that we are only now writing our experiences here.

We wait...as a song in our office plays, "Raindrops keep falling on my head".

caught up in the torrential rain
by Rajan on Jul 27, 2005 03:27 AM  Permalink

Though I left at 6.30 p.m. from my lower parel office, i had to come back to office at 11.30 as no locals were running and there was huge traffic jam everywhere. I was happy to see my Boss and colleagues in office and we enjoyed cup of tea together. When I stranded at the Lower Parel railway platform till 11.15 p.m. I was worried to see people walking on the railway track including young children with their parents and prayed to God for their safety. Now at 3.30 a.m. I do not know what time I will be able to reach my home at Vasai Road.

Totally Standstill Traffic 3 KMs in 6.5 hours
by Muthu K G on Jul 27, 2005 01:36 AM  Permalink

I have never seen such rain in my life. We could not realize the real magnitude of the rain during the day while sitting in the office. Thought it will be bit difficult to reach home and started from my Seepz office for Kandivili East at 630 PM.

Was a strange experience seeing 3-4 feet of rushing waters. I had no other choice but to park my bike on the roadside near green fields and to walk home. The worst affected seem to the elderly and children returning from school and it was 930 Pm, some of the kids are yet to reach their home.

I could see also there where some apartments people where struggling to reach their home. 25-30 people made chains of two rows and in between they were trying to help the residents pass through. Scooter parked on the side where totally submerged except their rear-view mirror.

Opposite to Nirlon the road it was like a lake on the highway and the traffic was standstill, cars left unattended with indicators ON in the Highway. I got help from one motorcyclist from Goregaon till home, reached at 1130PM who returning back to his Mira Road office. He was going to his home at Andheri where his father escaped after falling into a drainage manhole.

Water and only Water,,,,,,,,
by Salim Rakhangi on Jul 27, 2005 12:56 AM  Permalink

Now we have actually witnessed the after effects of this magnanamus rain.It seems to be the rains were pouring mercilessly having decided to wipe out the entire city, this is the other wild side of the nature and thats why we are totally helpless against it when nature shows destruction.

I live at Worli and the scene over here was electrifying, every single soul hunting for a decent shade to protect themselves, even the so called royal cars were standstill amidst the traffic begging the rain gods to calm down, right from the rich to the poor were stranded as if they were cornered by the ghastly rains.

by Arin on Jul 27, 2005 12:25 AM  Permalink

Hi,
Could somebody help the people stranded in the double-decker bus (no. 310) near Kurla Bus Depo? There are around 100 passengers which includes children and women. My friend Devi is there in the bus as well. Can comebody somehow rescue the passengers of the bus who are all perched on the top deck of the bus. The lower deck of the bus is totally under water. Unless some help arrives in the form of rescue-boats or helicopters, these people have no way out. Please can comebody help these stranded passengers. They can't call from their phones as the network is down. I'm in Chennai and is very worried about my friend. We are not being able to call anybody in Mumbai. Please help. Anybody reading this note can call the police or firebrigade, pls help. I have the no. (022-26435206) of the Bandra-Kurla Brigade but its not connecting. Can somebody try and ask for help.
Thanks and regards,
Arin
