One of the ways change can happen is througg public involvement. Public gets involved when a story they can relate to. In this case if the national media would not have taken up this case, I doubt anyone even would have given a thought in trying to come up with right interpretation. The viction would have been yet another unkown victim of the social injustice.
I would like this writer to bring up similar stories to forefront irrespective of religion or cast.

Why are so many people wasting their time over issues that are so unproductive? Let her live her life the way she wants to. High time that there religious leaders need some serious education. Hello!!! how about some evening classes at some REAL university.
No point for writing this article, all "laws/orders" from a religious body should be outlawed, including fatwas, no matter how logical a particular order may seem. I cannot understand how people can tolerate idiots - muslim or hindu pulling stuff out of thin air and dumping it on everyone else. These so called seers have forsaken their rights to free speech, not because they've hurt someone's fragile sentiments but because they do not understand that such a right comes with a duty of being responsible. A proof of irresponsibiliy is to even think that rape can pardoned.
