flaws in arguments...
by Madhav on Jul 22, 2005 12:21 PM  Permalink

The article's aim seems to be more to criticize "unsecular" Hindutva-vaadis rather than to point out a glaring hole in the muslim personal law issue. The author says that there are satis, dowry deaths etc and I agree. But Hindus and Hindutva vaadis, unlike their Muslim counterparts are NOT defending satis etc by saying that they are valid according to some hindu texts. Legally they are banned and RSS strictly agrees with the banning of such draconian customs. RSS never said that some prophet has prescribed in his book that untouchability should be followed and hence the government should allow untouchability. So please dont compare RSS with Deobandis and show your logical reasoning incapabilities.

Imrana Affair

All the debate, discussion etc on the matter and other similar problems is often centred on whether the action, fatwa is islamic or unislamic. In a civilised society the the right question should be whether it is moral, humanistic and legal.

Fatwas
by panakat ameeruddin on Jul 22, 2005 11:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As a Muslim I believe as per the teachings of Quran, Fatwas can be issued only when there is a critical situation and after studying pros and cons. In Imranas case Fatwa was issued without even udnerstanding the case. We need educated Scholars who handle these type of cases and who understand the complexities of individual cases.

Hope the Scholars would in future dont rush to conclusions by jsut hearing some compaints and these case should be left to the court to decide.

Regards

Panakat

Actually, we need judges and the police to solve such cases, not educated scholars, my dear friend. What happened over here is a CRIME, not some religious interpretation issue.

Dear friend,
I am living in U.A.E..This is a muslim country..
if such a rape case happens here, its not the
mullahs or scholars who will give judgement..it goes
to the court proceedings and ultimately the judge
gives the verdict...I think in the name of democracy
we have given too much freedom to these kind of
''half baked mullahs''

Uniform Civil Code
by mamta rani mathur on Jul 21, 2005 10:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yet another instance which proves the need for a uniform civil code.

Will the muslims of India ever stand up aginst their "half baked mullahs" and vote for UCC? Never. They may be oppressed by their religious laws, but will never vote for UCC because for them their religion stands above the country and everything else.

Yes, Hindu women are oppressed too, but their oppressers are punished under the Indian law and not by laws which were written centuries ago and have no social relevance today.

The country wants you to join the mainstream. Don't you? Or do you want to be appeased by people like the author who has no idea of the ground realities and makes flimsy comparisons.
