Thanks to the Correspondent, & to rediff, for publishing this comprehensive report of the "NON" coverage of the Indian PMs visit to US.
This could be partly attributed to the reflex Anti-India attitude of the mainstream bigwigs, who find India does not fit comfortable in their spin, and also to BAD BAD PR work by the Indian Govt. media liason.
Here's something we should get training from Pakistan for. Notice how they end up with good coverage even after pulling all their stunts like terror support, proliferation, ad nauseum!
Complain complain complain! This trip still moves you towards technology you could not even have access to before. Everything I read from the subcontinent is paranoid blather about one country gettign ahead of the other because of technology or weapons and an aparent bias from the US towards one country or the other. Wake up! The west will continue to play the two of you off of one another to profit off of your two countries instead of workign together. So sad that over a billion people sharing the subcontinenent would rather waste their national resources on war paranoia, instead of helping each other and building a local economy.
Rediff should try and ensure the quality of its reporting. In the internet era, they dont seem to be using the internet to do any research at all.
Another thing, Indians should learn to take criticism with a pinch of salt and empathize with views that may conflict their own view. You cannot call yourself globalised without this.
Just search for "India" in google news and you will see.
The US media has always been self-centric. This can best be observed from their news websites which dedicate their 99% of their main webpages to news in the US. And what do we get to see in the so-called "World" section? Iraq, because the US is involved there. A case in point is cnn.com. Compare this website with the BBC News website and you will immediately see what I mean. The warped view presented to the American public by their media was exposed after the Sept. 11 attacks, when most Americans had no clue why they were hated so much by the middle east. This blinkered approach of their media to the happenings in the world continues to this day.
I've been very disappointed in the coverage here in the US, that's how I happened upon the Rediff site.
This is nothing new to many of us in the US who have grown very tired of the US media trying to force their version of the news down our throats. The US media is currently focused on one thing, getting President Bush and they will create any scandal they think the American public will buy in order to achieve that goal.
As a US citizen, I am thrilled at the new relations with India. The American and Indian people have many common goals and values. Most Americans have a great deal of respect for the ingenuity and work ethic of Indians.
Yes, The US News and TVs are the junkest things I ever seen. They will talk about all murder cases or some weird topics. Nothing +ve, nothing constructive
Don't give a dime what these news papers think and write.
One answer to your question, what do you expect from a bunch of ignorant idiots. Bush may sided with India today, but a thug is a thug, no matter what he is today.
Enough already. While our newspapers have been going ballistic with all these reports, the press in the US ignores it. And you know why ? Where's the meat. Look at the august company we are in as far as state dinners go !!! What a joke. Why do our leaders have to come so far to get humiliated. And we are all to feel excited that the President "may" visit us. Why don't we lose this servile attitude. In what way are we less that we need the approval of others.
