Doomsdayer Mitra
by The Rock on Jul 21, 2005 08:59 PM  Permalink

This writer needs to drink some cool aid! He has gone over the top in this article without presenting a shred of evidence. The basis for his doomsday predictions have been simply "it has been said" and "it has been told". Can he present the sources by which he is so confidently asserting that India will lose all its sovereignty? Creating a massive fuss about anything linked with the US is a inborn trait of a card carrying commie like Mitra. Just as we ignore the rantings of the extreme right -like Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena and Osama, the readers should similarly be wary of taking such fringe leftist elements like Mitra too seriously. He would have us beleive that all our diplomats, ministers, officials, aides and agencies are fools and will roll and play dead as soon as US wants them too. It just serves his leftist purpose to create a hysteria among the public about US intentions.
If inspite of PAK being the fountainhead of terrorism, and a frontline US ally,US still has to consider PAK sensitivites before taking action there, does anyone seriously think India, a much more free and upright nation, will allow US a free hand in India? You must be simple in your mind to believe that.

Anomaly, Thy Way is Left
by sanman on Jul 20, 2005 04:19 PM  Permalink

Castro is a dictator -- and one who took help from the US in attaining power, so don't feel too sorry for him. I agree that India should keep control of its sovereignty, otherwise FBI, etc will be running through our society picking out only terrorists who harm America, leaving anti-Indian terrorists a free hand. But more importantly, the Indian left who have sabotaged our national security for their own political gain need to hunted along with the Islamists. They should be deported to Guantanamo along with their friend Ashok Mitra.

Food for Thought
by Sidharth on Jul 19, 2005 06:35 PM  Permalink

The self proclaimed protector of freedom and democracy continues to pay little respect to the laws that bind the world together. on the one hand, they go to great extents to 'free' Iraq while on the other hand they continue to behave like the landlords of the days gone by. The author has done well to throw light on these vital issues. India must strive to make it's economy strong and vibrant and become a force to reckon with. Only then can we play ball with the big boys. Until then, we will continue to DEMAND respect, not COMMAND it.

Is the Indian govt mad ?
by Prvs on Jul 19, 2005 04:05 PM  Permalink

I hope that the news about the US Officials supervising our officials is not true. Is the Indian govt mad to have agreed (or if they are agreeing) to this ? The US should be told where they shuld go.

Disturbing!!!
by Lakshmi on Jul 19, 2005 06:29 AM  Permalink

This is very, very disturbing news to all Indians. This is virtually stepping on the sovereignty of a free country and its due processes of law. As it is, there is anti-American sentiment among Muslims due to the Iraq war. Now, the more fanatical and desperate among them will actually react violently on Indian soil. The Indian government must wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. The Left and BJP must unite to stop this (they can surely find common ground here).

A world of anomalies
by prashant Sugur on Jul 19, 2005 02:12 AM  Permalink

If the US wants India to support them to combat the so called Global
Terrorism the same stands true for them also. They should extend their
cooperation in handling the terrorrism which India has been witnessig in
different corners of the country. The coutries which sponsor such
terrorism need to be told in way they understand & currently US is not
doing that. When US expects India to adhere to their standards India
should also come forward with conditions best suited in the interests of
the nation. It should be a win win situation. Then only we can curb this
global terrorism effectively.

An Unacceptable Scenario
by S S Hegde on Jul 18, 2005 05:23 PM  Permalink

The article is a revealation of the kind of scheming the US tries on nations like India. The scenario depicts FBI or such agencies operating in India taking law into their hands! Will the government of India accede to this? And if it happens in secrecy how will the Indian citizens accept it?

The situation is nothing less than that existed when Indira Gandhi imposed an ill advised Emergency 2 decades ago.

This also reminds us how the erstwhile East India Company from England took a foothold in India on the pretext of commerce nearly 2 centuires ago, and grdually gobbled up the Country. The picture is as clear as crystal, and I have no doubt that the UPA Government will not accept this kind of imposition by US in the name of fighting global terrorism.

Indians need to keep quiet
by sridhar raj on Jul 18, 2005 03:46 PM  Permalink

I really appreciate the writer for his witty and humorous presentation of the presence of US personnel on Indian soil. The author is one hundred percent right, when he says that under the banner of international terrorism, the US has sneaked into every country. He is also right when he states that the so-called prosperity of Indian middle class is due to the US tycoons. Hence, it is no surprising if an Indian is caught in the broad daylight before the police, sent to the high security prison, and tortured, everyone, including the Government of India should keep quiet except murmur.
