What Mr. Raman says is utter nonsense. These fanatics called themselfs jihadis are using the greatness of the western countries to act against them. A totaly coward act. Mr. Raman like any other so called intellectuals are simply try to highlight his own personality. Can any one deny that sept 9/11 acts are the most henious crimes against humanity. So these fanatics have to be dealt with the same yard stick.
We will find some of the women are also act as the guardians of these people. Let those females go to any muslim country, they will be treated like door mats
the article is excellent. i do agree with the views expressed. India was telling the world about this jihadi terrorism since decades, but the west needed a 9/11 to realize this. its unfortunate that many innocent people be it soliders or civilians die for this. and india is at the worst in the recieving end. how many of our jawans die inside our border fighting for this battle without any cause. i condenm any sort of violence be it in the middle east, africa, america or asia. but the world should realise that this new battle fought by america or UK was being fought by India long back even when they failed to beilive us. now when jihadi terrorism is a reality for the west also the only way to fight it is by uniting and fighting it with all intensity and to avoid the double standards taken by them by favouring certain countries. only message for them is beware of ur double stands for temporary gains because it will backlash on u itself.
You have made many excellent points as usual, and an excellent point here, and elsewhere, about the pattern of increasingly using more commonplace explosives by the terrorists. It is an irony, in light of your observations and trend predictions, that the west waged Iraq war in the name of WMDs.
India can not control how the west views their priorities, but we have been coping with a much severe problem without much help from anybody. On top of that, we have strange neighbours, we have a loose leash on appeasement politics, obviously we have a rising reactionist hindu right, and we have a highly religious/emotional populace. Given all these, what would be a truely India-specific anti-terrorism strategy? I would appreciate your thoughts on that.
Though just a common man not thoroughly conversant with Political matters, both International and National, I can discern the remarkable soundness of Mr. Ramans analysis and suggestions. Personally I have been always critical of the way The U.S. had been handling the problems of West Asia (formerly described as Middle East). The out of bounds and if I may say so atrocious, Big Brother activities of The U.S. with its military power is in my opinion un-condonable and unconscionable. I am one of such stupid persons who believe in the divine dictum Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall inherit the earth.
The United Nations must work as genuinely the united nations of the entire world and should take thoroughly unbiased and earnest measures to arrive at a peaceful solution to the Terrorists problem.
I am reminded of joke from the book Absolute Zero Gravity wherein there is a poser to solvers of Middle Eastern problems: God sent Moses, and he couldnt fix it; he sent Jesus, and he couldnt fix it. He sent Mohammad, and he couldnt fix it. Do you think you can fix it?
Millions of dollars have been poured into analysis about counter-terrorism. The 9/11 commission report itself is no less than 500 pages (the endnotes are really good).
And here we have the laziest, most incompetent analysis that's no better than the biggest "duh" that can be posted on the author's forehead.
Why don't I just come up with 17 lessons and rehash everything that has been said about terrorism for the past two decades, infuse it with my own two cents on what I think is the real problem (it's those damn Americans! let me shake my fist!) and pass it along for what counts as a column.
This isn't a column. This isn't even a pillar. It's more like a broken brick that lies on the side of the road. You know it was part of some big pile of bricks used for some construction somewhere. But by itself, it's useless
sir, the article is good and true infact but how much sacrifice you are willing to do?. this answer has to come from the western world, secondly what effort you are doing in understanding the mentality and behavior of the eastern world. it is a complex problem i know. sabastin
While the international community(read england and US) raves and rants on the so called desecration of their "values" and systems by the "terrorists", I think they need to wake up and realize the futility of such rhetoric whilst they keep on creating fresh Osamas and Al Quaeda setups with their blatant disregard for other cultures and people. I dont think any child who has had his kith and kin die in the blasts engineered by the forces in Afghanistan / Iraq or who has been a witness to the atrocities carried out at Abu gharib will ever forgive the forces for their deeds. These are life altering experiences and will live with them for years to come. All the pent up anger and hate needs to surface somewhere and there is but one logical target. I really cannot understand their blatant hypocracy. On one side they deplore the terrorist acts against their country and on the other reward nations that have been proven advocators of terrorism with grants and military aids. If blair believes terrorists are trying to hit normalcy in Britain, maybe he should pause to think what his "crusade" against other nations has hit - not normalcy - but the very fabric of life !!
