Well Mr. if you want to talk abt politics talk abt it and if you want to talk abt religion talk abt it. But before you write something like this, do some research as to what is what. u said its a disgrace on our part and that hindus are "poor", because we have a muslim president, sikh prime minister and a christian ruler. My question is why is it something to be ashamed of, isn't it something to be proud of???? Here u should know something, that Hinduism allows all kinds of worships...we were never taugh anywhere that hinduism is the only religion and that hindu gods are the only gods unlike some religions who can go to the extent of not believing in evolution. And if some spiritual leader is arrested for such a big crime, why does other spiritual leaders have to support him. Religion should not protect someone who commited crime from law. I completely agree on the fact that they didn't do anything abt political leaders who have much more criminal records, but it doesn't mean that they have to let go of every other criminal. If u feel that christianity is great, fine it is great according to you, you dont have to downplay some other religion in order to prove your point.
Gautier's mind was once enchanted & flexed by what he saw in India; then it got rigidly stuck to its biased & perverted bends; he has failed to recovr from his jaundice...and it seems no amount of medicinal truth can heal him... i once used to appreciate his seemingly genuine concerns, at least at times.. not any more, can I read stuff like this without having a good laugh... and feel pity for rediff & the like, who give him the space & respect, no matter what he writes... Yes, we Indians still have a sense of affinity towards & appreciation for the white skin... and for what the white man says & writes about us...but between Gautier & Sonia, I still prefer Sonia; she has a straighter, nobler, better agenda.
You need not tell that you are a westerner and a born christian, it is evident from your article. Your understanding of Hinduism is very shallow. It is a religion that stood 1000 yrs of oppressive conversion from the mughals and the britishers.
Sonia was not elected as she soon as she contested the elections. She had to wait for three elections before gaining majority. For your information, the post of PM and president is not that of a religious head of hindus to chant hindu shlokas or perform religious services(pujas). These people on these posts are to run a country of over a billion people. Thus hindus have put talent and ability (that comes from selfless love for the country) above religious sentiments.
I think the rest of the world can take a leaf out of our books and believe that our religions are to be practised inside our home. Outside we are all responsible citizens of our land.
What you have written is only what the british did to take the steam away from the freedom struggle. Divide and rule.
Dear Mr.G, Your admiration for India is truly amazing, but you seem to have missed a few basic points . you have a negative impression on Sonia which is completely justifiable, but that doesn't mean she's behind everything that Hindu's don't like, linking her and shankarakcharya's arrest is ridiculous,it wud've sounded logical if you had named jayalalitha instead. In the middle of your article, where you have beautifully worded 3% christians and 2% sikhs stats, he fact is that PM Manmohan Singh and Dr.Kalam are Indians first, a sikh/muslim later, imagine if Dr.kalam had thought in a radical way and dedicated everything he ever did in Science to Islam , he would be laden's aide, not our prez . The religion of our leaders is NOT something we are ever ashamed of. Sikhism is an integral part of India, and with the second largest country with Muslim population, I think it's India's asset. The "spiritual leaders" you mentioned about forming a conclave are not without their own share of controversies (esp. Satya Sai Baba), to put it finally, Cry Not O my beloved India, thy children will make your position as glorious as it used to be. Jai Hind Iwish rediffgave memore space....
Passivity is an trait of Hindus. Only after 300 years of British rule did they feel they should fight. Hindus need a leader. The plethora of politicians are nothing but self seeking petty men who are selling India and its culture. The common man is helpless, and his daily survival is a battle for him.Take Tamilnadu today, if you protest against sankaracharya's arrest, you are immediately arrested.Yes there is such a lack of "pride in own culture". I am for sure planning to do indulge myself for this cause, what ever be the consequences.
I believe the emerging India of today needs to focus on economic future as opposed to trivial matters like Shankaracharya's arrest. I beg to differ in opinion with M. Francois, but I think no Indian should even think of it this way - 2% sikhs and still a sikh PM, 10% Muslims still a Muslim president. This is in fact a matter of pride for Hindus and not a shame. Fellow Indians, look to the future, Babri Masjid and Godhra are history now and please let it remain buried. Let us not resurface such issues. Think Ahead and Move Ahead !!!
The Author has nicely narrated the story, trying to say india should be ruled only by Hindus, he has forgotten the fact that every citizen of India is called as INDIAN but not HINDU-INDIAN, MUSLIM-INDIAN CHRISTIAN-INDIAN or SIKH-INDIAN and so every INDIAN is having right to participate in the events they like.
When he say Prime Minister is a Sikh whose population is 2% then why do you say Punjab is part of India,
He also forgot still now only Hindus are ruling the country.
Felt Ashamed to be an Hindu and Indian when i read the article
Agree with the fact some polticians trying to please sonia and doing anti hindu stuff, but those polticians are Hindus this defines how corrupted the Hindus (HINDU-INDIANS in authors term) were.
Whatever can happen, but hinduism won't die. It is a religion that has survived the onslought by others for 5000 years, it will continue to live and guide the world.
