The importance of fourth estate in india shouldnt come down to the level of Impotence of fourth estate.
In India we our Fundamental rights enable each and every Indian citizen to enjoy Freedom to Express oneselves and Freedom of Speech.
When website like rediff.com starts to highlight articles like" Cry, my beloved India", were they thinking in these following lines? (a)What was the objective of this article? is it to promote " Global Citizenship" or " Global divide by religon and countries"? (b)Were the published article in their website factual? (c)Was this article published to settle some personnel vendetta?
I as a reader wouldnt mind sensationalization of articles and topics, but what is one's role and responsible as widely read fourth estate? Ain't rediff.com acountable to their readers in their role as influencers and opinion creators? If it were to be a debate i am game! May be the author has forgotten , India is a socially secular democratic republic country. So anyone can practise any religon. Buddism, Jainism, Taoism, Judaism or Hinduism hasn't died of in last 3 millinuems and also wouldnt die, even if there are no evangelist's, missionaries, ustads or Ulemas
I think in this modren days of Globalisation, we should talk about humans and not personal stuff like religion. Every religious leaders have done several crimes.
I live in Australia, we have at least a Priest per year, commiting child sex, rape or gay rapes.
India is supposed to be secular, No one should be worried that a sikh is a prime minister and a muslim is a president, and an foreign born woman is heading the India's largest party But instead we should be worried on our poverty, illiteracy, corruption..
And I also have strong opinion that who ever is guilty should be punished irrespective of his position and many politicians who are guilty but still wandering outside shouldn't be the reason for another guilty to be left freely...
Mr. Cautier, Westerner and Christian, why don't u mind yr own countries business. India is much bigger than Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs etc, aren't the polititians enuf, making people fight for religion, that u wanna strike one more match.
Indians have chosen the leaders, and u need not remind them of what they did, i cannot believe u r using media for instigating hatred among ourselves.
I highly appreciate the way you have corroborated these things, and tried in various ways to make this effort of creating differences. Even being a Hindu, I am not and will never be ashamed of a Muslim President or a Sikh Prime Minister. And it seeems quite ironical for a Westerner to make such comments trying to create further breach among my countrymen, especially because we got our independence not long ago, from Christian Westerners who followed the "Divide and Rule" policy.
It really amuses me that they still think they can be successful in their attempts today.
India does not really need people like gautier in this country ,so ignorant and paranoid. this country has survived endless onslaught and aggression both political and spiritual for over five thousand years and still it is quite robust and healthy. One Sonai Gandhi can really do no harm to this great civilisation. So thank you very much for your concern sir but just sit pretty.
i as a hindu am proud of an india where we have a sikh prime minister, muslim president and even a christian leader. let the rest of the world learn from us how to rise above petty differences -- that is truly india's role. if india remains a mere hindu nation, that will be the death of india's spirit.
you must be overdosing on hindi movies of the 80s where foreign hands line up in shady dens to destabilise india. does anyone really believe the sankaracharya arrest has anything to do with a christian conspiracy?
the benny hins of the world are best fought by allowing them to parade their nonsense and let people see through them. our poor and illiterate are allowed to choose their leaders and make decisions on development, economics and society in the process, but when it comes to choosing which religious discourse they listen to, they need to be protected from 'evil' influences by their 'wise' government or 'concerned' hindu leaders?
and you seem to have been away from europe for too long - nowhere is the pressure to remove religion from public life more than in western europe.
