if the media which is responsible for spreading news updates,is autocratic, then why the people continue to offer their support during elections.either they should boycott by not contesting their votes in favour of them ,or if there is no sound political party, its better not to vote,

I really liked ur views on this incident. There is,however, one thing I would like 2 add. Do u know the reason why politicians, exploit tragedies of such huge magnitude for their self purpose and still get away? Do u? I'll tell u. Because WE let them. The media may or may not report the truth. But, somehow we all know the truth. Still, we choose not 2 do anything. We r unconcerned until we r directly affected. we think we have no power 2 question them. we elect rogues with little or no education and completely depend on them,When,in fact we should watch their every step and make them accountable 4 their actions. People should take pride in themselves 4 who they r and say "Enough, we r not gonna b treated like scum. we demand respect and we r not gonna let u exploit us 4 ur political purposes". only then, can we see proper administartion

whose tradegy it is anyway

Writing for the sake of writing is fine.
After such a grim tradegy it more important to face the truth.
It is time to ask and answer one simple question.
Why India was sleeping why the tragedy struck. Did it respond to the signals properly.
Was it really a surprise.
The scietists have been asking for a long time that something was imminent. Did India listen to them.
For politicians it may be an excellent photo-op and for some others an opportunity to make a buck.
Was there a failure in the response to the signals when they were received, if so WHY ?.
who is responsible ?.

we all are responsible dude! its easy to ask what india had done for natural disaster. but what's more important is technology. we lack in technology to sense or detect those killer waves, wherever it may happen, in sea bed or in land. to procure those technology from japan or US costs money. of course one can spend money on it. but little thinking has to be done. if US or japan can develop such technology, sell it to those in need and make more money, why can't INDIAN's with over one hundred billion can do it? we can't do because everytime we expect government to do. we forgot that we are the government. how many of us are working in R&D projects to develop technology for INDIA? how many are aware of the fact that INDIA is spending more for procuring infrastructure? we having been born and brought up in INDIA have to contribute to our society. but what matters for us is also money. instead of concentrating on technology contribution, we simply ask the government on why it haven't done anything, and we concentrate on our work. we don't even care for someone to answer our question. next time, try to work for INDIA as its our duty and stop questioning someone else

Hit the bull's eye

I for one who al;ways thought about this rivalry btw SUN TV and JAYA TV.Though the district administration is helpful to the extent it can,SUN TV keeps on its statement that ppl don't get much attention. Its atrocious to comment like this, when the affected ppl by hearing this will lose hope in the entire system.Even if the reporters feel that ppl are not getting adequate help..they should not go air about that until they are 100% sure that the district administration is negligent..They should also make sure that those ppl get timely help.

Hi,

This is just to appreciate your efforts in always bringing out the independent third party opinion on the significants happenings (and tragedies) in our country.

Your artciles have always been an eye opener for me (whether it was on Bhopal Gas Tragedy, or politics etc).

I just hope that such views and stand points reach a wider audience.

Thanks again for brining to us your well researched and unbiased analysis.

I think this article is the voice of millions of Indians .Its true that the last thing we want is coverage by media for slefish interests .All political parties should come together & make a difference to peoples lives & most imporatantly, utilise public money to build homes rather than political campaigns

the irony
by R.Sriram on Jan 04, 2005 12:58 PM  Permalink

The one important criteria before giving license to start a new magazine or T.V is that they should not have any political affiliation.

I was stunned to see the SUN T.V reporting that no has turned up to save the people exactly half an hour after the incident. They report that there are only 15,000 policemen in chennai for 50,00,00 people and at the same time report that the police force was not working properly. What else can the government and police do, or what else if DMK in power would have done.

If everyone has noticed there was other rumour about the death of K.Karunanidhi the DMK chief. Within a few hours you can see DMK party men demanding to shut all the shops.

The irony is none of the party men is seen helping the Tsunami Victims. Sun T.V instead of airing what help the Tsunami victims might need, is more involved in jayalitha and government bashing. What difference has the DMK, PMK or the Congress ministers made.

Politics is everywhere. When 100crores where alloted each for kerala and andhra, only 250 crores were alloted for TN. Reason TN is not ruled by congress. I did not expect this from the Prime Minister and i am hurt.
