Reservation by the Govt is provided for people who are under-developed and backward. They may belong to any religion or caste or creed or race-that should not matter. The main motive is upliftment of individual by providing AID....so this should be irrespective of caste creed and religion if he is an Indian.

Should Dalit Christians ger reservations?
by Anand Rajadhyaksha on Feb 11, 2005 11:23 PM  Permalink

There cannot be any Dalits in any other religion than Hinduism. The Dalits who were formerly Hindus, perhaps a hundred years ago or less, were converted to mmostly the Christian faith. The Christian missionaries, amongst other lures, also appealed to their sense of pride, which as Hindus they found crushed under an unjust caste system. If I was born a HINDU Dalit, I would have converted to another religion wherby I would have been no more a Dalit, and thats why many Dalits converted too, so they could be Dalits NO MORE.

So, where have we got Christian Dalits from? Christiany claims to be caste free. Sects, yes, castes, no. So there cannot be any dalits other than Hindu dalits. The question of reservations for dalits other than Hindus does not arise. If any Christians wish to claim the benefits earmarked for dalits, they should properly denounce that converting to Christianity was a fraud perpetrated on them or their ancestors, a promise betrayed - then re-convert to Hinduism.

Will they do that?

Dalit Christians and Reservation
by Sasanka on Feb 11, 2005 11:09 PM  Permalink

In my Opinion, Dalits who get converted to Christianity are no longer Dalits, because Chritianity doesn't have any dalit discrimination in it, now does it? When they are so proud of their non discrimination policy, why give them the privilages of it? So, Dalit Christians should NOT get any kind of reservation.

SC Status for Dalit Christians
by Kunuthur Srinivasa Reddy on Feb 11, 2005 10:27 PM  Permalink

In fairness of natural justice and equality, why not the Central and State Governments of India implement the reservations for SC,ST,BCs, Minorities in the military services? Why military services are deprived of the reservation policy as is done for civil services? The Centre for Public Interest Litigation should fight out the case at the highest court of judicature to direct the central government to make the reservations compulsory and monitor its implementation.
