Let them be

Going by only the sketchy facts published here, although I agree with the learned judgement that the two rights are distinct, I think it was wrong to stop the organisation. Basically everyone has a right to the treatment of their choice.
Whether we believe the religious angle or not, the fact remains that many physiological illnesses have psychological roots. Blood pressure, cardiac ailments, diabetes, killer diseases all, can be well controlled by changes in mental attitude.
Nothing in the article explains what motivation the plaintiff had in approaching the courts.
Based on the sketchy information, it seems too harsh for the courts to have stopped the organisation.

Faith Healing banned in UP
by Sridhar on Feb 10, 2005 03:33 PM  Permalink

It is amusing that the whole concept of faith healing is being discounted as wrong. God is infinite and His powers of healing reach and touch all who have true faith in His power. No court or government or society can be so foolish as to deny this simple fact. Of course, it is important that quacks and charlatans are not allowed to exploit the innocent. Any genuine healer helping needy people and leading them to God should indeed be welcomed.

Placebo effect & Faith
by DSK Rao on Feb 10, 2005 03:11 PM  Permalink

Our human body is a very complex entity and still there are many things which the modern science is not able to fully comprehend. It is known from ages that mind plays a vital role in the health of a human being and has mechanisms to initiate self curing processes in the body. In fact if we closely observe , people don't fall sick if they have good immune systems and get diseased when this natural defense mechanism gets weak. Inoculation or Vaccination against various diseases is actually injecting a weak trace of the disease into the body to make the body's defense mechanism to produce antigens which fight these weak disease germs, thus making it more ready to fight any fresh incursion. Medically Placebo is a well studied phenomena of curing patients by giving them sugar filled pills and making them beleive that they are given potent medicines , which will cure them. The FAITH in the doctor/potency of the medicine makes the patient to cure themselves without any side effects! Does the HC ruling by any chance mean that Doctors who administer Placebos are illegal? These Doctors ofcourse charge their fee
