Excellent!! Bravo!! The most amazing piece of article I have read. Extremely articulative and open. I hope this article is read and understood by each and every person interested in India centric activities. All the politicians and each and every citizen of India. This article should be broadcast in a much more wider and repetetive manner. This could be a perfect example of the butterfly effect on India and its future prospects. The decision that people make in this regard would effect the future of India in a broad way. My heartfelt congratulations to all the Rediff team members for the concieving of this superb article.
To process the natural gas and to lift them involves huge resources and enormous risks since it is difficult to transport natural gas and very risky to handle them since they are highly inflammable and also there is the risk of protecting pipelines that run through across continents.
With nuclear power yuo can have underground reactors and less risk since this can be based in underpopulated regions. The US has the technology to do make this possible.Only a bloody biased fool will not see the ecnomic benifits of this .This fools are all communists who bloddy well dont want our country to develop.
I was shocked to hear that India should follw Iran not US. India should neither follw hypocratic US nor fundamentalist Iran, India should emerge as a world leared to bring upon a new world order. Still this a distant dream but we have to work on it
In my opinion we should go with the USA and Not with Iran, for the following reasons: 1. Iran is one of the few richest Countries endowed with large reserve of Oil and Gas. They have no need for Alternative source of Energy. Hence their development( with assistance from several Countries like Pakistan) of Nuclear Energy is primarily for development of Nuclear Wepons viz. Islamic Bombs 2. Historically, India cannot trust Islamic Countries for any help at the time of real crisis.Take the example of Bangladesh, which got freedom with the help of India in 1971 and now it is conniving with Pakistan to create terror along the Indian border and allowing Pakis to set up Training Camps for Terrorists to dirupt and dislocate the economic growth of India. Also take the example of UAE, which refused to help India when the IA aircraft was hijacked and taken to Kandhahar after refuelling in UAE Airport. 3. On the other hand we have a lot of economic and technical association with USA. Our annual income from IT sector and BPO related services is greatly dependent on US Clients. 4. We have to work with USA for Engg and Science Research & Development. Thus we shd go with USA.
India, not Iran or US. We have been chosing PLO, Iran and Saudis and what have got in return? So India should take care of her interests FIRST and FOREMOST.
You've heard it a 100 times, India's economy will boom if we can meet our energy needs. The US has access to the two countries that have the largest oil reserves, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. So aligning with the US would still make a lot of sense. Think of the types of goverments we would have to deal with (iran, venezuela, etc) to achive our oil needs if we didn't toe the US line. It is great we debate these things or even take the moral high ground of being non-aligned but the ground reality is that the US is the pre-eminent superpower in the world and has control of most of the world's oil. India's development hinges on the free-flow and constant availabilty of various energies and until we can ensure that we will never turn the conner and become a superpower in our own right. Beside we don't have the bargaining power like China (atleast not yet) to strike it alone. For more than half a century we have stood up for the small guy, voted or abstained against measure because they were morally wrong. Maybe it's time to think about ourselves what we need and not what others think about us. Forget "India Shining", how about "India - a bit selfish and still shining"
cool: next some dude is gonna say that we support Libya, Pakistan, North Korea, China, taliban and the jehadists.
When will India ever learn? Why cant we realize that these b******** like the above countries can never be friendly with us. Their only aim in life is to screw other countries(at any cost).
On the contrary, we have an anti US agenda. Face the facts dude-> US has never ever killed an indian or has never ever invaded any Indian space. Infact, they were the ones who helped us during the Chinese attack(after we were let down by our so called friend-> the russians).
In general, never ever trust any country ruled by communists, fascists, monarchs, autocrats, socialists, non secular powers(like the islamic Gulf states or some Hard core European states).
This leaves us with very few options: like US, Taiwan, etc. Let us not lose these few friends. Afterall, it is wise to not lose existing friends by trying to make peace with a hard core time proven enemy.

Thanks sir for making the right comments. Very rational comments. Its not that many indians do not share the same opinion when it comes to partnering on nuclear tech with the US. The problem is that these opinions are not properly channeled to influence the decisions made by the 'bosses' in the government. Hopefully some wise guy who has some influence would consider your comments.

Iam not for joining with Iran either. We should continue with NAM. We can spend the extra bucks generating resources in India itself. How about some investment on bio diesel for a change?
