I do agree with the writer. But will also like to ask,as Bengal doesn't have a hero (though it has number of successful personalities who are role models to youth)Which other state has roll models. Don't you feel its a crisis of the entire nation not only bengal
Mr T V R Shenoy is a very learned and reputed man. Undoubtably his experience in understanding and comments on Indian politics is very valuable. I am not a fan or supporter of "communism" exsisting in present Bengal but at the same time I must put forward couple of observations which I made during my travel across India. We all say that Bengal is "rotting". I have to say we should use these words very carefully. If my understanding is right then I am probably right to say that the land reforms which was indroduced in 70s has been followed to a good extent only in Bengal and as a result of which there have been a rise in standard of living among common Bengali villager. Govt. through its programme always tries to uplift the poorer section of the society. I must quote all of us consider Karnataka and Maharastra as developed state of India but when one travell across these states they will see a massive difference in quality of life across the state, which has been effectively delt by "communist" govt. in Bengal.Regarding shut down of factories in Bengal I accept that there has been faults in govt. policies and I think we should encourage rather than pick on them on basis of past.
There is some truth in the article, but the writer, I guess has forgotten that..still Bengal has more heroes that India has ever produced....not only in Itellectual level..but also in other areas...so..please ... make sure if you are writing next time ..be very sure..what are you writing...you should not forget..Amartya Sen is a living legend of Bengal. beside Sourav...I ask a simple question to the writer...can you name any living Indian..who is even nominated for such honour...You Cant.......
