Bengal, Ganguly & Elections
by uddipan on Dec 19, 2005 01:18 PM  Permalink

though well written, I have serious reservations regarding the statement:
"The truth is that Bengal has very few heroes left today"
Well, Amartya Sen, Satyajit Roy (not long ago), Soumitra Chatterjee, Aparna Sen, Subroto Roy Sahara (no need for him to stay in Kolkata), Leander Paes, Laxmi Niwas Mittal (no need for them to be Bengalees but they are from Bengal), and innumerable others whom the Benagli youth can emulate.

Bengal election and sourav
by saptarshi sarkar on Dec 19, 2005 01:01 PM  Permalink

Before writing anything make your mind whether you want to snub left in west bengal or want to talk on sourav .
there is no relation of sourav isue with politics . political leader are forced to talk on sourav since there is mass protest from every walk of life .
and for your kind information , Mr.Shenoy ..west bengal is in last 2 years a hot destination for investment . you kindly check all the economic results and forcasting on WB .and except people unlike you most of the people nowadays accept that bengal industry and economy again in upswing ! which may be a matter of alarmin concern for people like you !
whatever said by you , be rest assured that you will be observing revamp of bengal which is already getting under way.

Right to a great extent
by Partha Banerjee on Dec 19, 2005 12:57 PM  Permalink

I guess you are right to a great extent. Without the exit of Left front there is hardly any possibility of improvement in WB. Left front has slowly but surely plagued WB. Once a proud and formiddable state in every sector has been reduced to a state of processions, hartals and bandhs. People elected Left Front to pull WB out of the rot Congress I and Late Mrs. Gandhi left it in in the late 1960s. But Left Front has taken advantage of the sentiments of the common people of WB to implement its backward strategies that can only worsen the situation of WB. Our industry has flaggered. Our education system has hit the bottom. Our culture has been branded as that of hooligans. Our land is overflowing with refugees from Bangladesh. People of our state are moving on to other places to get better opportunity. Kolkata is no more the city of joy. I love my land and my city. That is why I belive that Left Front has to go. Its time it goes never to come back. Communism is dead. It's ghost is ruling WB.
