Why Bengaluru?
by Praveen G K on Dec 12, 2005 12:21 AM  Permalink

Sometimes, it beats me when governments decide to rename cities. How does it make a difference if Madras is called as Chennai or Bangalore as Bengaluru? Everybody seems to be perturbed by the Englishised version of the names of cities, but not about the overall development. We should be concentrating on creating a better city for a better tomorrow. Will the charismatic influence of Bangalore be scaled to new heights just by renaming it to Bengaluru? Life certainly does not change if Bangalore is Bengaluru or even Benda Kaalu!

Wonderful way to HIDE Govts INEFFECIENCIES
by Shivanand R Prabhu on Dec 12, 2005 12:20 AM  Permalink

Dear Chief Minister

In what way will it effect the Bangloreans even if you rename the city's spelling.

A group of enterpreneurs made Banglore prominent on the world IT map. Its time to get out of this POLITICAL GIMMICKS, solving no purposes and THINK SERIOUSLY on development of the City like Roads, Sanitation, Garbage etc. BTW will renaming Banglore get new business to the city.

Hope GOOD SENSE prevails on Karnatakas Hon. Ministers.

Bangalore to be named Bengaluru
by V.Srikantan on Dec 11, 2005 11:30 PM  Permalink

I would like to request the Chief Minister of Karnataka to spend the money that he would be spending on changing the name on the infrastructure of Bangalore, how ever small the amount may be. Tamailnad, Maharashtra and West Bengal ( Even China by changing the name Peking to Beijing ) have not achieved anything by changing the name of the capital. All these stupid regional language litterateurs are all well frogs and cannot see beyond their nose.

Bangalore to be named Bengaluru

The bigger challenge for the government is to rename rather than manage the infrastructure problems of the city. That indeed is the task of Wipro, Infosys and other IT big wigs in Bangalore.

Mr SSS,

Can tell me your name meaning???
If you call any object or any person there should be some meaning. So what is the meaning of India? Bharat is having some proper meaning like that we are trying to remove a "apabramsha" of bengaluru which is Bangalore. We want to be what actually we are. You are thinking about the Money getting waste on this thing right? Have you ever worried about the money wasting in other things? For a MP/year why you are not opposing such things? Renaming Bangalore to Bengaluru is good thing money is not wasting here it is being utilized for good reason. Dont say if you plow some seeds in lad as waste u will get its result after some time you need to wait.

Real cool news. Indeed this is pending since years. Why not call what the actual name of the city instead of calling what the brits called the kannada city - bengalooru.
