that's great...but what is the main reasoning behind changing names..? If it is merely trying to remove the symbols of Western Influence in India then we have a long way to go...
In my opinion, this is a totally unnecessary step, which would cost the Government millions of rupees for meaningless reasons. Changing names is not going to stop the westernization of the people of Bengal, and why should we stop it - because we think it is bad to be westernized - well, we have to encourage and feel pride in our own culture if we want to achieve such goals...
As a Bangalorean for 17 years now, I think Dharam Singh needs to concentrate on more pressing matters like infrastructure rather than on changes that are purely cosmetic in nature, like renaming the city. And how insecure can Kannadigas get? First, non-Kannada films are targetted, now they want a new name for the city, the list will always be endless. If you want to embrace the global village and yet retain what is intrinsic to you, the way to go about it is not by changing the name of your city; it's by getting out there right in the middle of that global village and proving your mettle, showcasing your talent and heritage, protecting your tradition and values and not closing yourself to the outside world. All I can say to the Kannadigas, and indeed to the rest of India that is clamouring for similar trivialities is "Grow up and get a life!"
we still call our country as India which the most Anglicised name that yet exists , Its name has been Bharat or Bharatwarsha all thease ages. Time we stopped calling the Anglo Saxon version name and stay focussed on only one name thats Bharat.
It sounds like a Bengali name hybridised to sound like a Kannada name. Why not try the original Kannada name of Bangalore i.e Bendakaluru? How you create a roman aplhabet that sound like Kannada 'Lu' in Kannadised Bengaluru?
It looks like all stupid guys decides for the rest of us. If Marathi chauvunists and Bengali (may be Bangla) chauvunits are successful, it seems like Kannada chauvunists too want to be successful. The best thing for the Kannada chauvunists should do is to change the name of Canara Bank to Kannada Bank (the correct spelling for the Canara Bank which we normally pronounce as Ke-na-ra Bank).
The best thing is let the Bangalore be Bangalore in English and Bengaluru in Kannada. Dont be be fooled by Bengalis and Marathis. Though Bengalis write it as Kolkata in English it is written as Kalkata in Bengali. Since they have this strange way of pronouncing language they wrote this English spelling as Kolkata (but keep writing as Kalkata in Bengali, but pronounced as Kolkata in usage). AS for Marathis changing to Mumbai, remember they did not change the name of BARC centre,Trombay to Trumbai). I hope Singaporeans would not change thier city state name to Simhapuram.
ummm...they shud concentrate on making the city better by improving the roads firstly...complete the long impending airport road flyover...and STOP making every road a ONE-WAY!...instead of changing the name...
after all Bangalore by ne other name wud be the same!
