Rename Bangalore ?
by Sriharsha on Dec 12, 2005 10:42 AM  Permalink

I think our politicians does'nt have better work ?..
Mr. Chief Minister, take a proper look on Bangalore & fix the problems like traffic congestion, day light crimes, speed up the construction works that are going through ages... proper power supply & transport, primary education & primary health for poor....
If you rename donkey, it does'nt become horse..
try to improve on infrastructure & development than these petty things like renaming ..

My opinion
by Nandini on Dec 12, 2005 10:28 AM  Permalink

I think that is a very bad idea.. Bangalore is nice as it is, and am not saying it because am one of thsoe so called pseudo people who ape the west and do not value Kananda culture, but I say it because I think its time we stop thinking of renaming and stuff like that and instead concentrate on infrastructure and rural development. These were the things promised and we want them delivered.
Whether Bangalore is going to be Bengaluru or Bendekalooru will make a difference to any culture, if the roads are still going to be as bad as they are or if the farmers continue to commit suicide! IS the renaming solving any of our problems, rather it creates new ones, giving a right to anyone who professes ther Kannada culture to rename everything, have bus nos. in Kannada. This is absurd. We as Bangaloreans are proud that we have a city with people from various cultures living together. And we cannot preserve this kind of diversity, if we are going to go all kannada. This, again is not because Kannada is not cool, but simply because we want to provide the best experience to all in Bangalore, visitors or otherwise.

Unnessary expenditure
by RAJESHWAR. on Dec 12, 2005 10:26 AM  Permalink

Dear all,
Which is no way needed. With change in two letters in city what they are achieving? which will cost nation and state, instead of that try to improve the road first. I really don't understand what these guys are achieving, by changing the names.

It is not rename but correctly spelt
by chethan on Dec 12, 2005 10:25 AM  Permalink

HI Reddiff readers.
"Renamed " is not a proper term here . The city was called Bengaluru, It is still pronounced and written the same in local language Kannada and also in Hindi. How ever the English spelling was Bangalore as kept by British for their convience.
Now the name of city is not changed like Madras to chennai but the English pronunciation of it is changed like Calcutta to Kolkatta. I request you not to use the term "rename" but properly spelt !!!
