Uma's bet was that she was too important to be expelled, and figured she can always get her way if she threw a tantrum, and later beg forgiveness for her "indiscretions". Now that the party has finally had enough, and called her bluff by expelling her, she now finds herself in the wilderness - she has no one in her corner. So she must come crawling back, and like a habitual wife-beater, she will promise to behave herself and never todo it again, until of course, the next incident and the rounds of suspension and apologies will start all over again. She should see her situation as a sign that she should truly became a "sanyasin" and go into the wilderness, shunning the material world.
