You ought to have cautioned the politicians earlier.
by chanakya on Aug 29, 2005 04:42 PM  Permalink

Not at the fag end of your term.

When the talk is centered upon governance, you damned well know it is ultimately all the dirt of the politics that wins behind the facade of representing the people and their will.

While in the Sansad, only Heaven knows whether they (these LS members) act in the interest of the country, their party, or the retention of power.

Most of the time they are being prompted and largely herded into a particular direction in the name of the party discipline.

It is unfortunate we do not resort to referendums in Bharat Varsh for issues of national importance with far-flung consequences for the coming generations who would pay for our short-sightedness.

And the safed topis or the saffrons whoever is in power manipulate with the issues and pass legislations some of them being indeed anti-people.

Any person heading the apex is after all a civil servant largely faithful to the establishment rather than having loyalty and patriotism towards the nation as a whole and her inhabitants.

SC vs State

If our Ministers, MPs, MLAs & IAS etc., had any respect for Law, we can expect them to honour SC's decision on reservation in Private Engineering
Colleges & Capitation fees. If such issues go to SC & if SC gives decision against States, how can Ministers & their batallion of thugs, make money? At every stage, it is such money that flows into the hands of Ministers etc. Half the Ministers, MPs & MLAs own Educational Institutions and certainly feel SC has no right to change existing reservation, capitation fees etc. If these colleges collect capitation fees, who can stop them. Does SC Judges or even Chief Justice think that they are above Politicians & IAS. Certainly not. After present Chief justice, our Politicians will bring in their CHAMCHA as Chief (Cheap) Justice and pass whatever rules they want. Not at all a wonder, even if the present Chief Justice is murdered before Nov 1 because our Politicians are hard working and do not waste any time in such issues.

I am sure your editor could have been more judicious in his choice of words in article matching the headline. In the testing time for Indian Democracies where one guard of democracies, i.e. VIDHAYIKA is out to ruin the entire nation thru corruption, assault and horse trading, it is only the justice dept which can uphold the values of democracy. It would be nice to have media giving proper perspective of Judiciary rather then being sarcastic

Justice Lahoti: quiet, but firm

The Chief Justice of India andor the Supreme Court is looked upon as the ultimate authority and power, who gives absolutely correct rulings, decisions, orders, advice etc. to all the citizens of this country. When the CJI/any Supreme Court Judge/s show indignation, anger, dislike, mirth or any other feelings, one wonders if these highly honourable judges are also apt or liable to allow these feelings to influence or colour their judgements, like anyone else, including the law breakers. If this is indeed so,then why expect them to remain isolated and insulated so completely from realities of our life, especially in the realms of law. The murderer at the Gateway of India is on video tape, caught immediately after crime, but he will live a normal life for many years on bail or behind bars or after being found not guilty in a court. Can the CJI overlook such injustice? In a case like this, any law or rule requiring finger prints and residential address of the murderer etc. should be ignored and capital punishment should be given immediately.Judicial activism will be most welcome in such matters, apart from rulings on interpretation of law, rules etc.

Hats off to His Lordship for so boldly and courageously upholdiing the great tradition of our highest court in the face os severe and at times very virulent tirades from people occupying highest position in power and some time constitutional dignitries. In this age of secularisation with heavy leftist bias,I wonder how long they can maitain theirindependence.
