Justice Lahoti: Quiet, but firm
by Sushil Pugalia on Sep 04, 2005 06:53 AM  Permalink

I hope that politician are really heavy, as they tilted balancing scale in thier favour. There is no more messages on the board since it was first published. Rediff seems to have gone Yo!Yo! First publishing the article and asking readers to share views, next blocking the readers' comments.

I am not sure about the numbers of blocked messages, but mine is not seen over there. This one is second for the article.

Justice Lahoti
by Jayant Tanksale on Aug 29, 2005 06:18 PM  Permalink

It is but natural that Justice Lahoti vented his anger at the manner in which Politicians of this Country are "running" this nation even when people elect them to "govern" it.

For a common man, the only ray of hope is Judiciary. As a matter of fact, Politicians are averse to frame Laws which could make them aware of their constitutional responsibilities. Barring a few, nobody in India vies to enter Parliament or a Legislative Assembly to discharge responsibilities BUT he wants to "enjoy" the liberty or freedom that we got in 1947.

The Freedom which we got was Political Independence. The freedom that a common man is experiencing is certainly not the freedom that the illustrious leaders of this nation fought for and even laid down their precious life for. The apathy shown by politicians, across all parties, to solving problems of this nation makes the matter worse.

The Freedom appears to being 'enjoyed' only by those who are in politics, the word which has thesedays become synonymous with manipulation.

Therefore, a common man in me concurs with what Justice Lahoti has said.

Good Job
by Dr.Chakravarthy on Aug 29, 2005 05:44 PM  Permalink

Mr.Lahoti has just done his duty and has done it good. Its not his personal performance but performance of the whole panel of supreme court judges and performance of the judiciary. Unfortunate that his retirement time has come though we dont have any shortage of such well read and respected people in the dock.
Its not completely justifiable to write artciles- either good or bad, about individual judges as they cases they deal with or not dealth because they like them, but just that they happen to sit in chair at that time and because its not their performance alone but performance of the whole panel.

May his tribe increase.
Not because he has given sleepless nights to the politicians but because he has kept the flag of justice and equality flying high. Hats off to his undaunted judgements and advises. His rulings remind us of Panch-Parmeshwar of the famous writer Premchand.
