POINTS TO PONDER
by PALLABBISWAS on Aug 27, 2005 05:36 PM  Permalink

Interesting article. However I'd like to say a few things.Firstly unless u step on others' shoes u can't understand their problems. In an ideal world there should not be any reservations. But are we living in an ideal world?Majority of the indian population lives in villages which is not as friendly as you see in MOTHER INDIA,SHOLAY OR KARANARJUN.People are still judged by their castes more often than not.Even in cities and towns while fixing marriages caste is given utmost importance. Many young people have told me that they are not going to marry from other castes how much qualified, intelligent, smart the girl maybe. It is easy to say that V.P.SINGH invented caste system. He didn't. It is continuing for thousands of years. We say that RAMRAJYA is the ideal kingdom.Surely it is for the male brahmins but not for the majority of the population i.e.sc/st/obc(74%).We all know that SHAMBHUK a shudra was killed by RAMCHANDRA instigated by a brahmin. His sin was that he dared to read vedas!RAMCHANDRA always treated HANUMAN as his slave and not his friend or brother. We also know how KARNA and EKALAVYA were treated due to their castes.

What to Say??
by M..Subramanian on Aug 27, 2005 05:34 PM  Permalink

If 15 Muslim MPs ask for concession that is secular.
If Haj pilgrimage is subsisdised that is secular.
5% reservation of jobs for Muslims is Secular.
What else ? Merit i staking the backseat.
Pathetic state of affairs.

Thinkers like you should come out more in open with their thoughts...we need to see future with constructive eyes that do not dwell in the past.

Who needs secularism?

Appropos the excellent article written by Mr. Sengupta.

It is really sad commentary on the times we live in. The political parties are hell bent on messing up our history and our future by going about reservation in such a filthy manner as to criticise SC without even going through the SC Order.

Nobody reminds these so called champions of seculiarism that originally the reservation was intended to be for 10 years only. And by the way, have we improved by 57 years of reservations? Instead of going for reservations, why not make the education free to all or make reservation on the basis of economic criteria?

I read the coment that you can construct a temple in the middle of the road without having to secure any permission which is not so in the case of Churches/Mosques etc. I do not know why people create this type of impression without knowing the facts & the consequences? Why divide the people on religion & caste? There are nth number of temples as well as mosques standing illegally. The matter is why allow the construction? Why not punish the guilty government officers?

I think, the bane of all the problems of this country are the politicians who should be banished.

secular

Iam a secular indian who always has had to depend on his brain cells to get anywhere.I have neither demanded reservation based on my caste/religion/language/economic status( though needed help)nor looked down upon any other caste people other than my own.Have never worn the thread around the chest have had beef and beer. How does it make me a shudra or brahmin???
In India to talk of merit is communal and to demand and get the caste included in most backward list is progressive and secular. The caste certificate is issued not to the brahmins! The govt jobs ad promotions are not for brahmins. Why do you say brahmins are not superior?? nspite of being discriminated against in all spheres the Brahmins have done well.Just give merit a chance and you shall see the effect.

I Think I will agree on this.My social background should not be such that I must be categorized.I want to be known as a citizen who believe that there is no one foundation to a country.Remember there aremany spoked in Ashoka Chakra!!
