For all those who blame the governemnt hospitals this is an eye opener. Its very easy to blame the doctors, the hospitals & the system but reality is inspite of such hardships, the meagre pay they get & the difficult conditions under which these doctors work they perform their duty to the maximum possible. I am based out of US...& know the kind of hardship one goes through for getting the proper medication here in the US. Nothing comes free here. Doctors charge exhorbitant amount of Fees & everything works like a real business. I can't even imagine a situation her where a paitent is treated for free......that too such an emergency operation. If he doesn't have an insurance he is a dead man even before the operation is finished. Yes there are few doctors who are responsible for tarnishing the image of govt hospitals.....but there are people all over the world like them...let us not blame the system entirely. The system we have gives healthcare facilities to even the down trodden section of the society. Instead of blaming the system let us hope & try that the implementation becomes better & conditions of Govt hosptials improve
it was really nice to read this article. well there are thousand of doctors who work hard and do the best they can. we the citizens have to trust and respect them. i have worked as a doctor in government hospitals and i know how hard it is to cope with the pressure.
This story seems very cooked up. I find it difficult to believe that anyone would attempt to suture a major artery in the neck without putting the patient to sleep. It also seems pretty unlikely that anyone would have been allowed to leave the hospital three hours after such a major operation. ~And if the writer had such admiration for doctor Ram why did they take the patient to another hospital for a second opinion??

Got to know that humanity still exists and a real life example is there of Dr Ram. Hats off tohim for the splendid effort of saving life. Otherwise I have rarely seen *real* doctors in such government hospitals.
Other doctors at govt hospital should learn from the incident. It could be anyone from us , any other day.
I congratulate Dr.Ram and all the staff of the hospital to help out the person in need at that very late hour. Also the Junior Dr shouldnt feel bad about the whole incident as it is only in due course of time with more hands on that he will manage such difficult cases. Once again for all us (citizens of india), we should be proud of these Govt. Hospitals which are doing there best with the available facilities to help the citizens. And should not form prior bad opnions of the same. We may feel that they are less comfortable and less caretaking but these are the hospitals which have doctors the max. experince in handling varity of cases and that to with limited resources. My congrats again to the whole hospital team and i wish people do change there opinions of govt. hospitals.
It was a nice article, appreciating the doctor's work. Its very easy for us to just blame the system (BMC as always) for our woes, and keep abusing the doctors/sweepers/policemen for our grieveances, when there are actually many efficient people serving in the BMC, who do there work without any complaints.
The fact is that the Government hospitals are so much overloaded with people that the doctors are at times treating 20-30 patients at times.
Its when we faces such situations and actually ineract with the concerned people , that we realize how efficient they are and how they perform there duties under so much stress and burden.
