This is with reference to the article, only veiled women can contest elections: The following verses from the Quran describe the dress code for women. The Clerics of today have created unreasonable dress code for women based on tradition and customs in the name of Islam. There is also, no mention in the Quran, that women should cover their face. "O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall lengthen their garments. Thus, they will be recognized (as righteous women) and avoid being insulted. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful." 33:59 " And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their VEILs over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss." 24:31
If you can plz tell Mr. Darul Uloom to read!!!!!!! I being a muslim girl, myself, doing "HIJAB" agree that dress code is important in Islam. Hijab means to cover your body in a way where your skin and your figure is not seen to the men. your face, palms and feet are allowed to be kept uncovered. People like Mr. Darul Uloom should know that nowhere in Islam are women supposed to be staying at home or not working and other fatwas that they keep bringing from time to time..May all please know that Khadija(rda) wife of Prophet Mahammed(pbuh) was herself a business women and His(pbuh) boss!!! things like what he said only add more misconception to the already spread non-sense about Islam in the this country and the world...I hope all citizens and specially the muslim women themselves can come foward to oppose him ...plz go and give your votes!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it goes further to stress on the popular belif that Islamic law treat women as nothing more or less than possession of men. Why should we allow these lunatics to follow their own laws when the Indian constitution is the only law of the land which should be followed by each and every citizen of the land, irrespective of their religious leanings. I expect the law minister mr. bhardwaj to take a strong view of this matter and speak out through the media against it. As for Indian muslim women, they ahve always been independant to a great extent compared to their middle eastern counterparts. Let them also come out in the open and oppose it. We welcome the Nafisa Alis, Shabana Azmis and Najma Heptullahs to defend themselves now, more than ever...
