What Modi did, only he could have done
by frankly on Aug 13, 2005 06:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Modi has been par excllence, please don't dilute the henious acts of modi,by distorting, concocting the history and above all maligning the image of some of the towering personalities like Indira Ghandi. They are pole apart, Indira sacrificed herself for the cause of nation. What Modi did to satiate his hatared, is to known to everybody.

Franly speaking indira was a power monger and arrogant. read the history books properly dont go by what your fav nethas say. have some common sense in u'r judgement. While I am no great fan of Modi But look at the state of gujrat now economically they are way ahead. Even the Chief ministers convention praised modi for his work for the state. What did 50 years of Cong rule give us apart from giving kashmir to Pak, corruption and poverty? Please know your facts and then talk frankly

A crime worse than Modi's
by mallika on Aug 13, 2005 01:38 AM  Permalink

I entirely agree with Mr.Sai.
Be it the Sikhs or the kashmiri Hindus who have been facing it right in front of our very own eyes, it looks as if one community deserves better than other.
I bet 20 years down the lane when all the Kashmiri hindus are wiped out ( GoD FOrbid) , there will be some other politician of some ruling party who just have a very poignant thankyou to say as if they were waitng for these two words all these years.
There was one artocle in rediff about kashniri hindus which horrified me so much that i looked for similar stuff in other leading newspapers. But no the surprise eveen the newspapers don't carry all of the news only a few colorful ones are further glorified in all of them from time to time.
Talk of Independence of press in 58th year of independence.

Setting a Precedent
by arul on Aug 12, 2005 11:46 PM  Permalink

One of the most disturbing things about the Indian State, besides the well-reasoned failings mentioned in the article, is the failure of the press to delineate between sins of omission and sins of commission. Modi, Narsimha Rao and Rajiv Gandhi may be accused of incompetence, or failing to act effectively to control the riots - if that. Tytler and Sajjan Singh are accused of explicit complicity in provoking rioters towards further mayhem. It is very dificult to directly convict Modi, Rao or Rajiv of any crime - except moral responsibility.
A precedent should have been set since India's Independence where acts of omission should be owned up to, and the highest-ranking politician involved would resign, owning moral responsibility. Nehru should have resigned after the Chinese debacle in 1961, not his Defence Minister. In the UK, Chamberlain resigned after the Munich fiasco, and Eden after Suez. Rao and Rajiv should have resigned after Ayodhya and the Sikh riots respectively, Naik after the Mumbai riots and Modi after the Gujarat riots. The precedent should be so strong that no wriggle room is possible.

I love my sikhs
by ashish sinha on Aug 12, 2005 08:55 PM  Permalink

I strongly condemn the inaction of Indian government in punishing the people responsible for anti sikh riots.

Sikhs are the most vibrant people of our nation. Though being less in number they have helped and saved hindis several times.

There is no other minority community in india that has affected india more than the sikhs. Its only they who make us laugh and still do not retaliate for the jokes we make on them. They are so wide hearted.... they have won our hearts by their behaviour.

I just love my sikhs... India is proud of you. Don't worry ... even if you have not got justice... the populace of india is with you.

You are in our hearts.

Ashish

1984 riots and gujarat
by rezan on Aug 12, 2005 08:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

ur comparison is hypocritical and mischevous. The massacre of sikhs was a response to the grossest violation of political order. The most trusted bodyguard turned around and shot the head of state at the instigation of the powerful sikh community.Do u know what the murdering of a head of state the most important figure in the entire country means. It means murdering the entire constitution of the country itself. So whatever punishment is meted out is justified. In the case of gujarat riots this was a state sponsored organised brutal massacre of defenceless old men, women and children in the most gruesome manner unimaginable in the annals of history. U may say both were massacres but think about the reasons. there was not even proof that it was the muslims who were behind the sabarmati express incident. it was speculated to be hindu sponsored to create an excuse to slaughter muslims. Moreover it was not jusat 3000 musims on that day. ever since partition if u take count muslims have been slaughtered by several thousands each year.Dont make up excuses to justify ur slaughter in gujarat.

What a ridiculous thought. The head of state was killed so killed 3000 Innocents were justified going by the same scale a whole bogie was set on fire with people inside what punishment will the perpetrators get? Both the crimes were avoidable if the governing body took the right steps. Infact the second one was more spontaneous because no one can control a mob that easily. There is a difference between instigation and reacting. What happened in 1984 was instigated. In 2002 it was retaliation to what what happened at Godhra. Now dont come back and give me the useless reports by Justice banerjee. Again what happened at both these incidents could have been prevented.

One Should seriously condemn this
by Anji on Aug 12, 2005 08:10 PM  Permalink

Frendz,

This is just one more instance Congress has shown

it's double standards.if you go back to 1984, the

famous lines from Rajiv Gandhi on these riots " When

a huge tree falls the earth shakens", it self shows

how Congress justified the killings of those innocent

lives.
