Mumbai and Bangalore should be left alone
by Kotes on Aug 04, 2005 08:43 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with Shenoy's views that a statehood to Mumbai will solve several problems. Mumbai and Bangalore are exploited and drageed down by the politicians from the other places. This has strangled the potential of these two ciites for job creation and consequent contribution to the ex-chequer.

It high time that Mumaikars and Bangaloreans seek statehood. When Delhi can be given statehood why not Mumabai and Bangalore?

Offer Mumbaikars a chance
by sgshevade on Aug 04, 2005 08:34 PM  Permalink

Non-sense! 105 Marathi speaking people did not loose their lives for someone to ask Mumbaikars a chance. The solution is to get rid of the Congress who has spoiled the city of Mumbai, introduced corruption, built tall malls without looking at the land contours, making fast buck in land deals etc. taxing the Mumbaikars as if they are born to be milked. Right from YB Chavan to Vilasrao Deshmukh, VP Naik to Narayan Rane each and every one has neglected real Marathi speaking Mumbaikars. They have been thrown in to the Northern suburbs which suffered maximum.Their going out has reduced their numbers which emboldens these people to ask for opportunity. Mr. Fali nariman do not spoil name of Veer Nariman.

Mumbai as a state?
by Harish on Aug 04, 2005 08:17 PM  Permalink

Mumbai as a state is not a bad idea. I think it was considered when Maharashtra was created. But politician turned it down as you said Mumbai is the cash cow. How can they allow it to go? Anyway making autonomous from the state would help.
The same thing happens in other states. For example- Hyderabad, Telengana and AP. Anyway lets leave that. The earlier Mumbai is given a chance to govern themselves the better for Mumbai.

India is a democratic country...
by Gautam Ghosh on Aug 04, 2005 08:11 PM  Permalink

India is a democratic country where democracy means government of elected egalatariat by some people engaged to elect them and for the welfare of the elected people and their cronies and those who can grease their way through; the rest of the majority is discardable. In such a situation, the general Indians get what they deserve - apathy and deprivation.

To Mr.Shenoy
by karthik on Aug 04, 2005 08:05 PM  Permalink

Hello Sir,
I read your article "Give mumbaikar a chance".I am from chennai.I felt really sad by seeing the devastation caused in mumbai. My condolences to the relatives of people who had lost their lives.
But demanding statehood for mumbai is a bit too much. You have projected as if mumbai is the only city in india or the whole country is dependent on it.Even when all these rains happened in mumbai the stock markets which is a indicator of our economy is touching all time highs.so please stop giving over importance to mumbai.whatever happened has happened these rains if it had fallen in the most advanced city in the world also that city would have suffered like this only.
when tsunami occured in tamil nadu there was more devastation than this.but here people accepted that we cant control nature and concentrated on their future.
everybody in the country has spirit not only munbaikars.
i again tell you that i understand the suffering mumbai is undergoing because i have witnessed tsunami in real.if anything is true then it is the lethargy of our politicians which we people should drive away

Delhi is Hell... even without rains
by Kamlesh on Aug 04, 2005 07:45 PM  Permalink

Delhi is much worse than mumbai. How can the standards of living be higher in Delhi if it doesn't supply bare minimum necessities like Water and Electricity.

And what about the Auto rickshaw drivers who charge heftily and never care to use meter? With a plight of a huge number of private buses, the roads are getting very congested.

As such it rains bare minimum in Delhi. An Average mumbai rain would cause floods there. I have seen just 3 cm of rainfall causing huge traffic jams. I wonder what would happen if it rains 94 cms.

Finally, what about the pollutions levels in Delhi? It is the maximum in the country.

All said and done, Delhi can never be compared to Mumbai. Mumbai was, is and always be the best city to live in. The standard of living is also very high.
And yes we do get electricity and water without any cuts.

Regards
