What a fantastic idea...
by Sagar on Aug 05, 2005 02:19 AM  Permalink

...If only it were that simple. But hey, getting freedom from
the pohms wasn't simple either. A lot of it really makes a lot
of sense. There are some perspectives that I personally
never saw this situation from, but the columnist seems to
have clarified a lot of issues.

I am out of India and have been out for a while now. I do
believe that I share true patriotic feelings for India, but the
place I really miss is Mumbai. Nothing will please me more
than to come back to mumbai really. But even though I have
a house in a very convenient location in the city, it is virtually
impossible to expect to start a new family life there. Call me
selfish or whatever you want, but soon there will be a lot of
well educated people leaving mumbai, not necessarily for a
foreign country, but for a foreign state within the country. I do
assume that it has already started.

I don't really know how to end this letter, but I do know that
selfish people like me, on the inside truely love the country
of mumbai, the state of mumbai, but cannot stand the
concept of the city of mumbai. This doesn't mean make
mumbai a country, but if mumbai can run the country, then
I'm damn sure that mumbai can run mumbai.

Couldn't agree more
by Shankar Prasad on Aug 05, 2005 01:00 AM  Permalink

It's not about 94 cm of rain... life becomes hell in Mumbai during any monsoon. And even Mr. T Chandrasekhar laments that he has to get permission from 16 sources before he can start laying a road. Let's wake up before it's too late.

tvr shenoy
by haresh jagtiani on Aug 04, 2005 11:32 PM  Permalink

shenoy is right. clean and throw all the politicians alongwith the garbage, dirty bhaiyas with stables and their ilk/types into the garbage dump. Tolerance is like a rubber band and cannot be extended beyond it's make, quality and elasticity. No where in the world and the least lesser developed countries than India, have we seen, read or heard about stables/cowsheds in the midst of human settlements, cities and the cattle roaming on streets in Mumbai, munching garbage and the thence following dirty milk?!!

The common citizen of Mumbai should wake up and estimate the damage done by only a deluge of rain, revealing all the dirt and true face of our loving city. All citizens unite, throw out all the governing people and the bmc, roll up our sleeves and save our city which is like a mother to us. Nothing worth a mention is done by any rulers. Do not go to voting booths to get a spot on a finger, instead go out to serve the self beings which act your innermost will accept and the self is truly happy.

Time for Satyagraha
by Kunal Savarkar on Aug 04, 2005 10:23 PM  Permalink

"People get the government they deserve"- and so it is with Mumbai. Why don't the people of Goregaon, Kandivili, Malad etc ask their efficient MP, the rainbow clothed (no pun meant), Govinda Arora for some relief?

Rane
by Kumar Govindan on Aug 04, 2005 10:23 PM  Permalink

If Rane can intimidate RELIANCE ENERGY with 'arrest' if power supply is not retored within 24 hrs, so can the Govt. of Maharashtra-the CM, Rane and his 'fellow yahoos' be arrested for not being able to drain out the same areas within 24 hrs or failing to restore the 'Train Services' at the same frequency as before the deluge, or for failing in so many other 'Mumbai fronts'........stretching the same logic.
