Stop blaming the rains?
by Aditya Nerurkar on Aug 03, 2005 07:24 AM  Permalink

A metre of rainfall would be enough to stop NYC. six inches of rainfall in my locality in NY, made the local govt declare a holiday and tragedy. there was waist hih water everywhere, electricity went out, cars were dragged away, there was total chaos. People were reimbursed their losses, as a part of national natural disaster plan. We are talking of 40 inches of rain in Mumbai. Take the geography of Mumbai into account. There are hills on the east, sea on the west, several rivers and lakes. The flooding was not caused by clogging but by overflowing rivers and lakes, hills creating instant rivers and brooks. Nobody can do anything about this. Mumbai police was on the road for two straight days, without sleep.

As far as giving autonomy to Mumbai goes,I can only laugh. Not only is Mumbai linked to Maharashtra historically but financially too. who gives us the water, food, etc....is it produced in Mumbai..think how that would be affected.

Govt is corrupt. what about us? arent we? who evades taxes, bribes, spits on the road, litters, riots, loots, murders, etc etc....
