Government of Maharshtra - A laughing stock
by Rahesh Kumar on Aug 02, 2005 05:05 PM  Permalink

With the Rupees 500 crore grant is the Vilasrao Deshmukh govt going to answer those precious lives lost due to their inability to contain such a disaster??? We agree it was a natural calamity - Ms jayalalitha also faced a much more serious situation during the Tsunami . Had the 500 crore been utilised earlier prior monsoon by doing a good job of cleaning the drainage system ,things could have been in better controll .The road widening project at the western express highway has also been progressing haphazardly. At the stretch of Thakur complex incompleted widening of the roads as well as covering the drainage system was left halfway through due monsoon. This shows how organised our city planners are. The compound walls of buildings adjoing this developement gave away and water gushed in submerging the ground floors and destroying cars and other properties. Will the vilasrao deshmukh government repay all the loses suffred by the tax paying Citizens of Mumbai ... Wake up MUMBAIKARS... Elect a responsible Govt who can clean up corruption and who can bring back MUMBAI to those glorious days of happy living. MUMBAI the international city of the world is not in the safe hands of such gov

Wonder where to begin
by Ujjwal Mazumder on Aug 02, 2005 05:00 PM  Permalink

One can write for as long as one wants about what is not right in this unilaterally decided, self-proclaimed "" Mera Bharat Mahaan "" !!

Amazing, shocking, unbelievable - one will run out of adjectives to describe a country that has been quite literally devastated by a breed of animals in human form called " politicians " who decide what our fate should be like - whether we live like human beings as like in a civilized country or are we to live in inhuman conditions for ever, be it in normal times or when disasters / calamity / catastrophe hit us and reduce conditions of millions of hapless Indians to nothing more than what animals will be subjected to.

Ever since the disaster of last Tuesday, govt. has relentlessly been blaming on nature's fury and their helplessness in combating this - yes, agreed - 994 mm of rain in 24 hours is hell of a lot but what the hell the govt after govt had been doing for last decades to prepare for eventualities like this ???

Lamenting is all we can do, for in no time everything will be forgotten, life will get back to same old battle while the the likes of Vilasrao will get back involved in scheming to fend off the Rane's to hang on!

Everybody in Mumbai responsible for the tragedy.
by Jayaprakash Balan on Aug 02, 2005 04:59 PM  Permalink

For all that has happened in Mumbai in the past few weeks was the responsibility of each and every Mumbaite and we can in no way escape the blame by putting the onus of Govt., Civic bodies, Infrastructure, Population, Slums etc.

Though the major share of responsibility lies on Govt. and Civic bodies, what are we as people of Mumbai doing. Just spitting, throwing garbage anywhere, constructing buildings, slums anywhere without any rules, not growing trees and destroying whatever greenery is available.

Its a true fact that however advance human beings become with all technologies we can never fight nature or escape its rath. But the best we can do is minimise the tragedy of loss of life and property.

Govt. should see that construction activity is done in a proper way especially of buildings, check growth of slums, Civic bodies should see that drainage is absolute clear and no accummulation of garbage anywhere. They have to train and make the slum people responsible to keep the surroundings neat and clean. People on their part too have to do thier bit by keeping their surroundings clean, throwing garbage in a proper place, water harvesting etc.

Mumbai Rain
by Ravindra K Dangi on Aug 02, 2005 04:43 PM  Permalink

Its not in the control of anyone to stop the rain. Every Govt. plans its best in the case of natural calamity, but every plans has draw back. No one plan can be 100% suitable according to the situation and foolproof. Hence saying, Govt has not provided assistance has no meaning. I ask U 1 question... R V Paying taxes to the Govt. ? If yes...than is it justifies according to our income ? If not paying...than y v r expecting from govt. Think it.

If this kind of rain happens any where in world....entire type of govt it self fails to their best..every one cant be satisfied by the govt..so need not to blame govt for delay or anything...yes media has played very negative role in all the mumbai rainyweek..which is shame on them..they r only showing critisim documentry of govt...but not showing positive documentry..

So keep away your self from media hype and do your best to make mumbai in Shanghai...

Brave Mumbaikars...
by Saahil on Aug 02, 2005 04:36 PM  Permalink

First of all i like to thank and congratulate the team of REDIFF who gave us the best coverage of our home town. Like me many others where quiet impatient about our city and Rediff has given us the best reports as if we are in there KUDOOS to them.
Mumbai will be back on track that we know very well. All the people will strive day and night to bring back Mumbai to its originality. The Government should awake from its sleep and work towards the betterment of the state and should take care of the drainage facilities.
The peoples representative or our White spotless leaders, where are all Political leaders of our country ????? This is the time that the people of Mumbai should know that this Political leaders which give useless reasons to fight are of no one. I want to ask did any of the leaders come to rescue any or did they even care to give the message through any medium. Just think???
We the Proud INDIANS and MUMBAIKARS will overcome this disaster, by helping each other, without the religion or caste barriers and regain the glory of our town. Living far off in Dubai and other parts of the world we can PRAY for there well being. May GOD bless MUMBAIKARS...
