The Tip of The Iceberg.
by Siddharth Aiyappa on May 04, 2005 05:38 PM  Permalink

The rape of the teenager that took place in mumbai, recently is just an eye opener to the unethical 21st century we are a part of. Its interesting to note that the friends of the victim could do nothing to help their friend, this itself is proof to the fact taht a common man stands terrified at the hands of these powerful anti social elements. Shockingly this is having a chain kind of reaction in our society.
I would also partially blame the society in which we live, for the heinous act of the police cop. Its disgusting to see how immoral people belonging to the page 3 segment are showcased as demigods in the society.
The press also needs to adopt the role of a watchdog. Todays society is filled with obscenities in the name of art and aesthetics. I request the press to admonish such Pseudo Citizens of the system rather than praising them.
Please dont adopt the posture of a critic towards the cop but also look at the entire gamut which could spark such acts even in the future. This is an earnest request to all the sensible people of the country to think maturely. Atleast i expect you all to adopt a problem solving aproach.

Mumbai is considered as an example
by hariprasad kantubhukta on Apr 27, 2005 06:32 AM  Permalink

Mumbai is seen as an example city, the outside world recognizes India by Mumbai.

You dont have to hang him. But make sure u punish atleast upto three or four levels of superiors of the that cop along with him. Im sure this happened due to lack of discipline, for which the police department should stand example.

What is required NOW is speedy justice
by Vipul on Apr 26, 2005 11:33 PM  Permalink

I fully subsribe with what other Mumbaikars have commented.

Following is suggested to be immediately done :

1. There is nothing additional to prove that Sunil More has actually raped the girl. Hence, the punishment should be immediately announced. The speed of decision making will make Police and Justice more effective.

2. The Punishment under law is 7 yrs to life imprisonment. However, since the rapist has committed a heinous act on a person whom he didnt knew, neither ever met in past, never infatuated and since he was supposed to protect law , he should be immediately HANGED. HE GETTING HANGED IS THE ONLY SOLUTION. Lets see, whether our democratic country can take quick effective steps in this direction. In such cases, Laws of countries of Middle East like Saudi Arabia are faster and effective. In Saudi Arabia, Rapist is hanged in a public place in front of public and televised in television.

3. If Police Force and Politicians has the guts and desire to serve public then open all past files of Girls raped in last 5 years and be put on special court.

As such to clear the rot in Police System, Police Force should be partially corporatised.
