nothing new
by ashish kapooria on Apr 21, 2005 09:30 PM  Permalink

well, shorn of the verbiage (and even that is pretty bland) the article is a virtual rehash of the many written by armchair foreign policy experts, there isnt really any breakthrough thought implied here, and even the rather hitchcockean style title fails to flatter, not really worth reviewing even.

pressure ??? what pressure ?? ...

Reality is US can not dare to wipe out pakistani nuclear installations. So, it's doling out f-16 candies to pakistan. Yes, in the 9/11 aftermath, pakistan succumbed to US pressure to take a stand against islamic terrorism, otherwise the political climate then would have made life difficult for pakistan.

And in the present context there is no real pressure. Can anyone spell out in concrete terms ..what the USA or the international community would do, if India and Pakistan do not continue with the CBMs ?
no one is hardly bothered and it has been like that for the past 50 years, and it can continue like that ..well..indefinitely..

If, India and Pakistan are talking ... it's only because Pakistan has relized, at least in the current scenario it's just not possible to snatch Kashmir from India. And friendship with India will do a lot of good to Pakistani economy.

Yes, with changing time pakistans' stand on Kashmir may change again in future.

A Change of Heart or Tactics?
by Kumar on Apr 21, 2005 06:23 PM  Permalink

All that India has done in the past is observe self restraint. I fail to understand why the author counsels self control by stating that "let us not lose 'self-control'". The General is probably making clever tactical moves. So India needs to keep a close watch on the General and his moves in the days to come.

the only solution to end the conflict
by ravi on Apr 21, 2005 05:38 PM  Permalink

The only solution to resolve the conflict is that pakistan should agree LOc as a border otherwise India should invade Pakistan (saying that war on Terror like what America did in Iraq).

..An eye opener

The only way to stop confilct beetween the two countries is to
strengthen the political and ecnomic ties between the two countries.
The european union is the best example for this. When so many
SMALL countries with different cultures, languages can work together
for the ecnomic upliftment of their trade and people, then why cant
two neighbouring nuclear countries work on the same ground, to
make these two countries totally indeoandant. i beleieve only then
can we stop worrying about pressure form other poweful nations

Dear friend,
I do not understand why u would want to equate the indian subcontinent scenario with europe. The european union has diff cultures and diff languages. But what they do not have is pathalogical hatred for each other. AND a genuine desire for PROGRESS AND WELL BEING OF THIER CITIZENS.
That, my friend is not the case with countries like pakistan and bangladesh. Progress and development are alien concepts for these countries living with medival mindsets.
If there is peace, it will be good for all. And I would certainly like to see that happening. But I have some serious doubts about our neighbours intentions....Kutte ki dum....

What EU is trying to acheive, we already acheived more than 50 years ago. We too have many different cultures and beliefs across India, but still we are one country. So its other way round, EU is trying to acheive what India has already acheived.

cheers
venkata
