This refers to your story on how Hurriyat feel let down by Pakistan. What else did they expect. After all, Musharaff is serial betrayer. He stabbed Nawaz Sharif in the back, he sabotaged the Lahore detente with Kargil, he betrayed the Taliban, he went back on his promise of giving up his army fatigues. He will sell out anybody, any time for his survival. At least he is consistent. If he is playing ball with India it is because his handlers in Beijing and Washington have told him so. He will trouble India without batting an eyelid when it suits him. As for Hurriyat, they hve finally got their due. They have lived long enough on the spoils of Pakistan that they have got spoiled.
India is on the threshold of unprecedented prosperity and development. And at this crucial juncture to have a open border without visa or security control to a country that has been the hotbed for jihadi elements and epicenter of international terrorism could be the biggest blunder committed by India. If this plan is implemented kashmir would be irrecognizable and would turn into a place of eternal squalor like palestine and lebanon with foreign nationals coming and leaving at will to spread hate, chaos and confusion.
Since the days of yore if there is one attribute India has consistently maintained and exhibited is foolishness that has invariably resulted in self-hurting. And if there is one single act of foolishness that India has consistently resorted to is trusting its neighbours from a certain religious community (I don't want to name it and be explicit). There is historical evidence that Indian boundary was extended upto current Afghanistan. However, as a particular religion originated from Western Asia, the part that we frequently call as "middle east", and progressed towards east, Indian boundary has steadily shrinked at its western front. India's latest strip off has been the deletion of the lands of nowadays referred Pakistan and Bangladesh from its map. And yet we don't learn. Yet we believe that our cunning, malicious neighbours are interested in peace. Well, guess what? They are not. They are just hibernating before they become powerful enough to slice out another chunk of India's flesh. And if we choose to trust them again, once more it would be only us left to blame when the inevitable happens and Indian boundary suffers another major shrinkage.

Once, British Empire included India in its borders. That didn't make India part of England. Historically Indian sub-continent consisted of the following parts: Hind, Sindh and Deccan. Sindh ( The Indus and its tributries) is Pakistan. It was almost always a separate country or countries.Anyways, historic India is Indus valley that is contemporary Pakistan. Contemporary India is actually "Bharat". India should call itself Hindustan or Bharat. Word "India" belongs to Pakistan. Kashmir kept itself a soverign country untill Mughal emperor Akbar took advantage of civil war in Kashmir. Kashmir was never part of Indian culture and it will never be. Go and see in kashmir with your eyes wide open. Kashmiris look differnet from hindustanis in all respects. A true Kashmiri can not think of calling himself a " Hindustani". that means Kashmir is a separate entity from India.
Good beginning, the Vajpayee govt's initiatives are carried forward by UPA, only bright spot in the lack lustre functioning of UPA. But be careful to jump to any conclusion about Msharraf's intentions. It will be too hasty to conclude that he has a change of heart over Kashmir issue. Because the conflict is bread and butter for Pakistan Army, they are rewarded for peace intitiatives but actual peace means they don't have a case for the ruling the country, the perks are too tempting to let it go that early. Threat perception against India is the only weapon they have to get F-16s etc. But with all the bonhomie amonst the people at large, it will be difficult to sell the threat to Pakistani people for long also it will not be easy to rollback the inititatives. Hurriyat were a paper tigers, sooner or later it will be exposed to all Kashmiris.
Every few year we go through this cycle of events where we try to bring peace by appeasing the Paksitanis. Sooner or later they show their true colors, and we retreat hurt and injured. A lsting solution is not peace in the cuirrent format, but may be something more drastic and ambitious. Madan
Even now, how is America treating the Peurto Rico leaders who want America completely out of there? Just like that, India should wipe out these nasty anti-nationals. America uses the word, anti national, national security threat etc when it deals with the separatists, India should follow the same. Only problem is that takes guts and will, something that the Indian politicians and people lack!
Reduction of troops in Kashmir is dangerous. Musharaf cannot be trusted to hold back the Pak-sponsored terrorists.Future hopes should be based on past experiences.

The terrorists are not the protactors of a religon or faith but are in fact dacoits in disguise and hence can be better dealt by the the people only. So it is up to the local people which way they wish to go. In fact the hostilities have robbed the society a real heaven and livelihood of millions of Kasmiris.
