Pak President is a very smart and shrewd individual. One thing the leaders of India have to reconcile with is that they have cornered themselves into having good faith jestures for obtaining peace. This move by Indian PM is indeed a great one. I do not believe that any Pak President can say that the current position is final and survive in Pakistan. Indian leaders can sell out their people and lands. They will be admired as great, secular and generous leaders. Nehru got away with such gestures. Press and people cared less for the calamities accompanying such gestures. India and Pak can talk until the world comes to an end. Kashmir problem will not be solved. Pak enjoys both US and China support. Pak has no reason to be reasonable. Vijaya Kumar
You are dreaming a lot Mr. Hamid Mir. The only agenda of Pakistan and hence Mr. Musharraf is to clinch Kashmir from India. Spineless and Shameless Indian government's approach in the event of Kargil has saved pakistan's existence on this planet. Imagine a same event happening with the western countries, Musharraf's would be hiding like Osama in the mountain ranges of Afghanistan.
If this NEW APPROACH of President Musharraf going to be, it must be heartily welcomed by his Indian counterparts for the sake of everything- peace, harmony, open Kashmir, less US's influence on India and Pak, Gas pipeline from Iran, more Central Asia business, more South Asia business, more games of Cricket/Wrestling/Volleyball/Football etc, more transport routes, more domestic trade, more jobs, more person to person contacts, etc etc. There are all positives and no negatives atall. The Govt of India should help him and help themselves. China and USA will have no business to interfere then. The defence money is used for the better causes only.
India is not going to gain anything from friendship with pakistan which is a failed nation by all means Only pakistan is going to gain. I think it is better for India to stay away from Paksitan which is nothing but a bananan republic
