Reports say that the three tier border talks consists of i)guiding principles, ii)identification of key factors and iii)actual delineation. What needs to be emphasised to the Chinese is that much of the territory usurped by it subsequent to the 1962 war never ever historically, culturally or spiritually belong to China.Take for instance Kailash Parvat and Mansarovar. It is another matter that China does not currently have the vocabulary of spirituality in its society, which is the reason for suppressing the peaceloving Tibetan Buddhists. The Chinese people do not have the remotest link with this region which has the greatest cultural, religious and spiritual link to India and Hindus from times immemorial.Much of the course of Brahmaputra now in China has sole cultural, religious, social and economic bond for India and Indians alone. On the other hand for Chinese these have purely strategic and -in these times of globalisation- economic exploitation value, to the detriment of India. These important geographic, demographic, cultural, religious and spiritual factors should be included in the list drawn up for study and evaluation when India sits down with China to negotiate a settlement.
