"Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I may not forget you."........Continue on buddy....good luck
Only US has the generosity to completely change a young man's life. Its a shame where in a country millions of dollars are thrown on cricketers but a family has to run on Rs 3500...Shah Rukh Khan & Sourav Ganguly should set about establishing chain of schools so that poor students can get first class education. Bengal's flirting with communism made this bright young man an atheist. He should have dabbled in the beautiful Hindu philosophies.

West Bengal government has already sanctioned Rs.2.5 Lakhs to cover his cost of airfare and other costs.
haha..look how glad ppl r for getting a chance of running away to US...to get real good education u dont really need MIT boss..it may be needed at the research level...we r born wageslaves...look how proud ppl feel for getting to work for MNC's or getting a free tour to the US..haha now his parents also want a free ride...qualifying an aptitude test and contribution to society are two different ball games...wake up Anshuman...may I know how would MIT be of any help to you or your country ? u will just pass get a degree from MIT at someone elses cost and then ask for a job in US which would of course make u n ur family rich...of course u deserve so much for qualifying an aptitude test...

Yogi: Are you jealous or what? This boy in India cannot afford to go even to any Engineering colleges in West Bengal, IITs cost Rs.1 Lakh for fees plus hostel etc costs another Rs.1 Lakh. How many prents of India can afford IITs? or Even normal Engineering colleges? You may have money, so you can go to any university or IIT in India, but this boy's father earns only Rs.3500 per month, which you are spending on your petrol for your motorbike which you father has got it for you from his bribes or money stolen from banks legitimately as business loans. Poor students have this hope to get a scholarship in USA, where the university will pay for everything. In India even National Scholarship will arrive 18 months after the course has started(I have that experience).Poor students have no chance in India, so they have to go to USA.

Yogi,
You proved your mentality. tell me Yogi what good you are doing for India? It all depends on your attitude and mentality. No matter where you study or work you can contribute for India if you wish. Do you know how many great Indians (great contributor in common man's view. it may differ for people like you) had done their study in foreign institute?
And for cost he has not asked any help for anybody. He and his family struggled for his study and he got perfect 2400 marks in SAT. On his merit MIT gave full scholarship and now some organization is helping him out in some of the other costs (for air ticket etc.) which was difficult for him to arrange. Now you can ask those companies/individuals why they are not thinking like you but helping him.

Yogi, shove the country service in your a**,,,,its better to be slave than being free and ruled by people like Mayawati, Manmohan singh, also Communist, the whole India knows that they are anti-national forces but still they rule in India
Hearty congratulations and all the very best to Anshuman! But the story does not make sense. Someone seeing SAT ad in the newspaper, applying & buying study material & then applying to top universities... Maybe the reporter made some things up in excitement. Rediff - please ask your editors to proof anything before posting.

It seems there was some mis communication during interview. It is true that he has no idea about those institutes. He got some info about MIT in news paper then he tried to get info and found that he need to appear for SAT. In the mean time he got some info about top colleges from his contacts and from internet and then applied.

MIT is well known in West Bengal, as the finance minister of West Bengal is a PhD from MIT. According to The Telegraph, his school teachers helped him a lot, as he was the best students for the previous few years and stood 6th in the Secondary examination already.
What I dont understand is how did he shortlist MIT, stanford, Caltech and HArvard without knowing that they are top colleges? And what exactly is the fees for SAT? Is it free or what? and surely Application to these colleges must cost keaven and earth. My pa brings home 30000 and still I couldnt afford it for my MS.
But all the same, MY VERY BEST WISHES TO YOU ANSHUMAN, GOD BLESS AND MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE

In the mean time he got some info about top colleges from his contacts and from internet and then applied. It is true that it was dificult for him to arrange SAT fees or MIT fees. But he got help from his relatives for this and as he stood 6th in madhyamik (10th exam of west bengal) he got some scholership from "Dunlop" which also helped. And yes he got full scholarship from MIT :)
I liked the comment made by his teacher : "At times, I felt I am not capable enough to teach him." ...wow...you can't top that. There is something in this kid...everything has jelled well right now for him....the power of the internet cannot be ruled out too....good luck Anshuman, ulock your genius !!
People in this forum are talking nonsense... why don't you praise this guy for his efforts.. anyway...My hearty congratulations to you and all the best.
