This is really a nonsense thing. When you compare no. of Murders with other Countries like colombia, It should be in relation with the population of that country. Say for Eg. No. of murders in a year per one lakh of Population. I am sure India will be way down the line. Rediff should stop such nonsense articles

We have to study the data in light of Facts Real data to prove would be what % of population of any nation is murdered every year, just number of Murders donot show the facts

if not crime capital in the world now but moving in the same direcion and most probably after few years will become crime capital in the world
Now it is to be going up in India because of Indian Politices (Presently releted to castisum) and presently what is happying in cirme is useful to the leaders to develope their criminal beheviour as well as to increase voting bank only

we are adopting western culture so its effect is there . We are committing more crime, using guns, more rape cases. I don't say we did not had crime , but see the todays crimes its done by seeing movies, using guns or other sophisticated weapons. Other factors might be poverty and unemployment, but many crimes also has to do with the life style. People want money through short cuts.

Why all of us are looking at the population versus murders ratio? Mind it, the figures mentioned are the cases registered and there are numerous murders/accidents which never get lime lights that Arushi/Jessica etc. got because of Media.
Instead comparing the figures & ratio, better we do cosntructive to save our society. Shouldnot wait for India ratio matching with other nations. We all must accept that we are converting into resteless, unorganized and uncivilized society which will only end up in DISASTER.

It's better we look at our stats and problems rather than pointing at other systems. but for sure, things are worst here and worsening every day!
