INDIA, THE MURDER CAPITAL
by Sujan Saraswati on Jun 19, 2008 10:53 AM  Permalink

I have two opinions on this issue, one probably, in the past also, we were at the top of the global crime list, but because of non-participation of media, the crimes were not coming into light. Mostly the crimes and punishments were negotiated in rupee terms. Probably, in villages, the situation is still the same. Murders are committed but do not get included in the statistics. Secondly, in South Africa, influential people have to hire armed guards. In India, if one is influential, he is provided guards from the taxpayers' funds. We have some deshsevaks, who in the past got exposure to the media through their not-very social deeds. Take the case of Phulan Devi, she was not only a Hon'ble Member of Parliament but also was nominated by a political party of national stature. One could not recite the deeds (I can not call them crimes) she committed, because it will amount to contempt of an Hon'ble Member of Parliament. Strange concept of democracy.

Freedom fighters are not alive

Hi Rediff,

India has more population than any other country.
In terms of Aids or Robbery or Murder, why the count is not done based on Ratios?
i.e consider we have two cities 'A' with population of 100 & 'B' with population of '50' & 2 Crimes have happened in both the places. Now how do you judge about the city, do you say both are equal? Do you find it is logical?

As per my understanding % of murders happening in India is 32719/1,129,866,154 = 0.0028%.

Which is hardly 0.003%, do you still say India is a murder capital.

Pls. for the god sake try to find good points about India rather than such crap news. I agree crime rate is increasing but comparatively it is less than any other under-developed countries and definitely will not be No.1 in the list of 'Crime' or 'Aids' etc. India is growing well, thanks to capitalism, literacy rate is increasing & every thing will be controlled one day if more new rules are brought related to law & economy.

Thanks
Karthik

When someone say the statics , he should compare all the parameters, whatever they want show in public.Otherwise it is totally unacceptabel. I am fully agree with Karthik statement.

Well done.

by relying on statistics and changing it to a decimal percentage, you can't ignore the fact. Ask those who have lost their near and dear ones in those gruesome murders.

i can recall one incident when a brother killed her own sister in his own house and his lover as well with a sharp object,he surrendered went to jail and came out free after only three months,he is an influential businessman of our area.then we can think of the crimes committed in the dark of the night or in some shoddy place and the law merely says that for lack of evidence no one is convicted. Its coz of not laws i think but of the law enforcing agencies.authorities.

Murder Capital of the World.

If you compare how many people are being killed across the World by US forces, this figure is nothing.

unsafe India
by parun kansal on Jun 19, 2008 10:13 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Till the time the politics are involved in every system, India will not move in the right direction.
Take the example of Arushi, its alsmost one month have been passed but CBI is not able to punish anybody....this is the system of India.

No doubt India is growing but it gives only crime, curroption to India.
No body is safe today.
we have to make the system.

This is because of corrupt politicians. First we should try eliminate all corrupt politicians and then everything will be in order.Otherwise India will move towards worse to worst.

Though we need strict laws for law breakers, but comparing to % to population, we are at the bottom.

Wrong conclusion!
by Junglee on Jun 19, 2008 10:04 AM  Permalink

How can anybody come to a immature conclusion without taking into account the magnitude of population? It should be realistically the number of murders per million population. Columbia seems to be topper in murders when you consider the this.
