The abundant energy is stored in water (hydrogen energy). India has to do research on how to extract energy from water.

Tata is introducing a new car in august that runs using compressed air as fuel. If this kind of technology is improved then future vehicles does not need petrol.

Today in Hindu I read an open-ed article about the long term impact of N-Deal written by science adviser to then PM Indira Gandhi. In the article important implications are discussed very clearly. But Kalam says good for the country. But kalam and other political parties who favors for deals always give vague statements and nothing is clear to me.
I am totally confused.

All Lies of Blue Cabbage
by Dipak Bose on Jul 15, 2008 11:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1) Russia is building several nuclear plants and FBR without any 123 Deal and the last PM of Russia Fradkov came to India recently to offer another 6 plants without any IAEA deal. The argument of Russia is that the deal between India and the Soviet Union was made in 1988, so it is binding; there is no need for 123 Deal.

2) India has enough natural uranium, but AEC does not bother to utilize these just to create an artificial crisis. There are a number of countries with huge natural uranium but these are outside the jurisdiction of NSG or USA. Also after the completion of Thorium-Uranium mixed plant which the Russians making and the FBR ( you need to wait 3-4 years) there will not be much need for massive amount of natural uranium. The problem for India is for the short period and it was created by USA with full collaboration of the Sarkari scientists just to promote NPT. 123 Deal is not alone, it is accompanied by Hyde Act, IAEA treaty, NSG treaty and Fission material cut off treaty.

3) Putting all together it means the end of Indian nuclear research and nuclear weapons programme, as India will not be allowed to import any equipment or materials for the military sector. USA and IAEA not India will determine what would go to the military sector. All these parts are left vague in the IAEA treaty deliberately. This IAEA treaty is the same as that for any non-nuclear weapons country. There is nothing India specific really.

Suppose if some one develop some technology, he has to continuously do research and upgrade the technology otherwise it will become obsolete. Instead we one get technology from others he no need to worry about the R&D but only thing is he has to buy another if the operation viability is lost.
The same rule is applicable to the Indian Sarkari scientist.
They are not fit for R&D. they are always interested in monthly salaries and pension. No accountability too.
Why should they favor for developing technology handling head breaking problems and by spending sleepless nights.
It is better to favor for buying technology from others and operating it. so peacefully work 10-4 for 5 days and rest enjoying life.
Who is going to ask them?

do not depend on politicians
by VENURAJA gopal Bowenpalle on Jul 14, 2008 11:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Don't you depend on politicians to know if the nuclear deal is right or wrong for us.

China had already signed such a deal.
India can withdraw from this agreement whenever it wants to withdraw and this will not lead to an immediate shutdown of the nuclear reactors.
This agreement provides for the reserves of fuel supplies from USA and in the event of withdrawl of agreement , India will have to pay for all the reserves , that is all.
This nuclear agreement also paves a way for buying many defence equipment which now comes under the list sanctions aaginst India.

Thus both USA and INDIA will be benefited by this agreement.

It is necessary for us to move ahead with the rest of the world and move in to a new era.
USA capitalists would be benefited by selling much of the defence equipment which they can not sell now , without this deal.

India can be benifited by acquiring an equal status with a developed nation and a super power.

Communists always opposed every polycy that was progressive, they opposed when rupee was devalued , when computer industry was taken up and when liberalisation started.
So do not depend on them.

This put all our nuclear plant even those used to make the bomb under international inspection. We as the Prime Minster said it will be prepetual meaning forever. Now Pakistan and China has not withdrawn a single nuclear plant from bomb making and put them under international inspection for civilian use, Why should we loose our bomb making capacity. International inspection IAEA means China, Pakistan have right to inspect our nuclear facilities and other facilities related to nuclear. When we are not gauranted a single item of nuclear technology from the West only if its laws allow it to its obliged to give after meeting all terms of agreement.

Further, we have achieved a breakthrough in nuclear and that is the commercial scale fast Breeder reactor which will give us a capcity to produce 500,000 Mwe of power without this agreemnt, but it upsets the balance of power meaning it produces excess plutonium for bomb making. his too will be under inspection because off the clause to inspect nuclear sites even if foriegn non-nuclear related material is on the sites. This is the main reason for agreement to castrate and contain Our country.

The Internal Laws of the US
by ravi prakash on Jul 14, 2008 11:24 AM  Permalink

The statement non applicability of internal laws to India is a red herring. The reason is clear to see. The technology, knowhow to run civil nuclear plants, implementing the safeguards and supplying fuels, spares etc all will be done by US firms who have to abide by the internal laws of the US. These companies will not violate the laws even the contract may go against it. As such the contractual terms will definitely be governed by the US Laws. Of course violation of contractual terms and the application of local penalties will be covered by the laws of India. However, the purchaser of such contracts is inevitably the loser.

Before signing the following terms of support must be put on paper to the US:

> Declare Pakistan a terrorist Nation and
isolate it from any arms provision from US

> India and US join hands against terrorism and
implement the rule of no extremism under the
name of religion be allowed in any of these
two nations.

> Work Permit Visas be always given as priority
to Indians just as any european country.

> US will not involve itself in the Kashmir
Issue any more.

...will think of more points.

Myth #11: India needs more nuclear power to assure its energy future.
by Suraj Singh on Jul 14, 2008 10:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Myth #11: India needs more nuclear power to assure its energy future.

Fact: Nuclear power has been virtually insignificant in India’s energy mix in the past, and will be no more important in the future. India has been generating electricity with nuclear reactors for more than 40 years. Yet, reactors supply only 2% to 3% of its electricity today. India has not built more reactors because they have not turned out to be as safe, or as clean, or – most important – as economical as originally thought. Even if India were to achieve a 50% increase in nuclear power generation (which is unlikely) such a step would only increase India’s overall electricity output by one percent at most, and would only increase India’s overall energy output by a fraction of one percent. That is not a significant increase in the energy available to India and would not decrease India’s demand for oil and gas.

Myth #14: The deal is not primarily about making money; it is about creating a new U.S. strategic relationship in south Asia.

Fact: The deal is primarily about making money. The main effect of the deal will be to pardon India – to remove it as a violator of international norms. After such a change in status, there will be no impediment to U.S. arms sales. This is where the real money is, not in nuclear reactors. U.S. exporters have mentioned selling as much as $1.4 billion worth of Boeing airliners, hundreds of F-16 or F/A-18 fighter jets, as well as maritime

Good Logic Suraj! It could be not only Arms Sale.US would like to dominate Indian Agriculture with monopolised BT seed Technology. The alert and curious observers would find that majority of Indian Seed companies have been taken over by so called MNC's(And Happly sold by so called Indian enterpruners after getting heafty valuations)Now there is big debate going on regarding the authencity of BT feild trials itself taken by these BT companies.SC has appointed MR.Bhargava of CCMB and he is making right noises. The debate is also regarding safety of BT food for human consumption.Seems in US, it is being widely used and is branded. So, ignorent and not so well would be consuming these food.In India is branding possible with our so called efficient Govt? The so called MNC'S will dicate what to grow, what price food will be sold-so on and so forth..
US capatilists wants to energise their slumped economy in long run.Read about Mr Gate of Microsoft saying that World buisness not only needs IT but also BT.
So the situation as listed out above is scary. The alternatives are US understand true value of Indian human potential, seperate their Oil interests and their relationship with us(They may be freinds of Saudi or Pak but not at cost of India). If US realy RESPECTS India(RESPCT-this word is flaunted by media and deal-supporters)then please help India and not harm India.

U.S. and India Released Text of 123 Agreement on 3 August 2007!

So what was all the hue and cry about sharing the “secret” agreement for over a year when it was there for all to see on the Web?

Could the Left and other parties not Google it?

So much for India being a tech “superpower”.

Scientists must rise to the occassion to rid of dependeance on Fuel
by SK2007 on Jul 14, 2008 10:02 AM  Permalink

If we can get out of dependance onb fuel, then our problem is over. US can't armtwist us and force us to sign N Deal.
If US has nuclear arms capability to protect their meagre population, we have 1000% right to protect our population against enemys. Or else once for all countries must stop nuclear weapons once for all from this world.

NUCLEAR DEAL & CRUDE
by VIVEK on Jul 14, 2008 09:52 AM  Permalink

First you raise the price of crude oil through trading using easy money being supplied by US Fed, making countries like India & China toe US line, and force them to buy costly nuclear equipments from US.

This is the essesence of the so called nuclear deal.
