Do not sign the deal in its present form
by Ram Sharma on Jul 11, 2008 06:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We should not sign the deal unless Hyde act is made unapplicable. As I had been telling that next US President will also b ready for this deal, now Obama has also supported the deal. Hence we should not hurry.

Sonia is raising this issue so strongly now, to divert peoples' attention from the real burning problems of the country. Otherwise MMS had said sometime back that this deal not everything.

The next US government may be supportive of the deal, but what about the next Indian Govt? The Left (read Prakash Karat) has made a big deal about the deal as if it's the biggest threat facing India today. Now they have even declared that they would ensure that it does not get thru. That is the height of immaturity. They had made a lot of noise, saying it was not being shared with them. Now that it is public (and found to be in India's interest) they are against it saying that the govt ridiculed the people. I believe it is not the people but the Left who has got a well deserved backlash.

It is not just that only through this deal that we will get Uranium. Uranium is there in India too and it needs to be mined. Unfortunately the Govt has ordered 2 of the mines to be closed prematurely. Even DAE experts say that the mines if working would get more uranium for self sufficiency. Moreover with the newer technology with Thorium, once developed, India will not need Uranium at all and will have self developed nuclear reactors, unique in the whole world.

There is no reason to assume that the next Indian govt will not sign the deal. We shall sign it on better terms for us.

China took lot of time in joining WTO on its own terms much after India, but Rao joined without much discussion, just as the Congress govt is trying to do now. Who has more international trade now, China or India?

You mean to say if Angola join 10 years from now then Angola would have more trade than China and India?

Sonia and her puppet MMS are after this deal desperately for only one reason... money. Look at Amar Singh who has recently returned from US and understood whole deal in one hour. US surely know they won't get this kind of golden opportunity again to buy Indian politicians and de-nuke India. It is foolish to expect from a person who had opposed all along India going nuclear to think about India's security intrests. He has all along been US slave.

You think it is better to have nuclear bombs but not nuclear facilities that make electricity? And what is the point in having nuclear plants and not being able to use them properly? The Left opposes the idea tooth n nail but their biggest ally- China- is totally into nuclear power generation.

It is important to have nuclear plants for electricity but more important is to have the freedom to retain our nuclear capability, make and fine tune our nuclear weapons as we deem necessary.. We should not be dependent on US or any other country for our security. It would be foolish on our part to expect US to be our friend and help us in any confrontation with China. We have total of 21 nuclear reactors and have agreed to put 14 under IAEA safegaurds whereas P5 countries have 500 nuclear reactors and reactors put by them in all is just 5.. hope you get the picture about what we have negotiated and what china had negotiated.

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh residents are warned. From Saturday, you should stop switching on lights and fans, not operate air-conditioners and geysers and live with the help of natural light and air.

Faced with an acute power shortage, this is the across-the-board advisory issued by the authorities on Friday to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers in the state. "The advisory is amazing, as it practically tells people not to use electricity in whatsoever manner. In other words, the state is telling us that the dark ages are here," commented R Nageshwar Rao, a Marredpally resident, who was aghast after being told about the advisory as the area has been witnessing a near daily power-cut for the last few weeks.

The advisory issued by the Central Power Distribution Company of AP Limited on Friday said the state is facing a severe power crisis. This, according to it, is due to inadequate rains leading to no generation from the hydro-electric stations because of dwindling water levels in the main reservoirs, drastic reduction in the share from the central power stations and no source of supply from the other states due to the dry spell across the country.

The current shortfall is 700 MW and is expected to go up to 850 MW by the end of July.

Where is Karat & party & BJP now, China is building six new nuclear power plants.
by Loga on Jul 11, 2008 06:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India would require 500-600 thousand MW of power by 2030 up from 132,110 at present. Thus nuclear power is the only way forward for India.
Energy needs of India are increasing exponentially and only nuclear power is the way forward. Increased price of oil and gas internationally, issues of climate change associated with coal as well as the breakdown of consensus on big dams, India needs Nuclear Energy.
India generates 132,110 lakh MW of power annually. Of this, 64.7 per cent is generated from thermal power, 26.2 per cent is generated through hydro electric power, 5.9 per cent is from renewable power sources and only 3.1 per cent through nuclear power.Nuclear power would contribute 10 per cent of the country's energy needs by the year 2022 and 26 per cent of the needs by the year 2052.
Share of nuclear power in world wide energy production was one per cent in 1960 and between 1960 to 1986, it rose to 16 per cent of world's energy production. The share has remained constant since then. There are 439 nuclear power reactors operating around the world and the US accounts for 104 of these reactors followed by France at 59, Japan at 55, Russian Federation 31 and Republic of Korea 20.
Out of the 35 new nuclear power plants under construction in the world, Asia accounts for 24 of these. While China is building six new nuclear power plants to get 5,222 MW power for its grid, India too is building six such plants which would add 2910 MW of to its grid.

Year 2030 is completely different...check it if u live at that time. Vehicles will be run by compressed air or hydropower. Power will be generated by natural resorces either tidal (India is having huge seashore) and by solar. So dont take much tension...Get excited with new powerful invovations!

See the news in bbc website today. It's regarding the decommissioning of one of their nuclear plants at Sellafield.

'' Group up for £17bn Sellafield job

A consortium, including the UK's Amec, has been named as the government's preferred choice to clean up and run the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria.

The £1.3bn a year contract could be worth £17bn - more than the cost of the London Olympics - to Amec, Washington International and France's Areva.

A Westminster report out on Thursday claimed it could take more than 100 years to make the site safe.

It would be awarded initially for a period of five years with the potential of further extension periods to a total of 17 years. ''

It is just decommissioning. Think of the cost involved in construction and operations , fuel, potential risk of a nuclear disaster etc etc

These amounts cannot be estimated now because we dont know the price we have to pay for these services in the future because of more stringent regulations in future.

We may have to depend on international experts ( Americans !!! ) in all these activities. So there is no wonder why Americans are very much interested in helping India to meet our energy demands.

Good samaritans. Praying to God to offer them Royal suites in heaven when they leave this world & saint hood by church.

Expecting some positive & neutral criticism, and not politically biased.
