Fewer indians should be involved in agriculture
by Maximus Decimus Meridius on Aug 13, 2008 05:49 AM  Permalink

Indian agriculture is not efficient because 60% of the population is tilling half-acre plots. Look at developed countries - 5% or less of their population is involved in agriculture, and yet they export food to other nations. Simple reason - if you have large farms, mechanization of agriculture becomes cost-effective. India has to be weaned away from sustenance-based agriculture, by getting more people from villages involved in industry. It contributes more to the GDP and provides better quality of life than sustenance-based farming (not talking about farmers in Punjab, BTW. They've managed to use mechanized agriculture well). I'd rather the government train farmers as skilled/semi-skilled labour in factories. The unfortunate problem is that people consider it below their dignity to work for someone else.

Indian agriculture cannot improve unless large-scale mechanization is implemented. The govt spends a lot on farmers, but farmers themselves are not aware of the facilities made available.

Finally, where is the shame in importing food? I export manufactured goods, import food. If my balance of trade is positive, what difference does it make? As an individual, you don't grow your own food - you pay people to grow it for you, and use your skills at your work, to buy everything you need.

We make prestige issues out of silly things like this, but nobody wants to make budgetary deficit a prestige issue.

RE:Idol Worship is prohibited in Hinduism:

"i HAVE THE proof that GOD commanded MANKIND ONLY TO WORHIP HIM (ALONE)" What proof? The holy books of Abrahamic faiths? That's not proof - there's no proof it was written by God and not by humans. You cant claim a holy book is the truth because it states very clearly that it is true. Or its believers claim that it is true. That's a retarded argument...

First, prove any God exists in the first place. Nobody has ever proven that. So, the question of how many gods there are, is speculative, given that the very idea of god is speculative. You dont know if god actually exists and even if one exists, whether god is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and benevolent. So even that is speculative - maybe God is not omnipotent or maybe not benevolent.

So, one set of unsubstantiated claims are as good or as bad as any other. The first step to proving which theory is correct is to prove that the being whose existence it espouses actually exists. Right now, it is pure speculation.

Is man god's biggest mistake, or is god man's biggest mistake?

My humble input is as follows.

Life is all about Realization. We talk about faith only when we are weak. When we are strong we give daam about our faith and faith is replaced by desire.

When it comes to other Creations other than Humans, God still exists for them, isn't it? But do they realize?

Our Religious books are written by people who have realized in their life time, and tell us in trumpet voice, that they have Seen the Soul, they have Seen The God. And they have tried their best to tell us all about how to live in this world.
Each of them has preached their own ways, but those ways are only to make one reach a level from where he/she can move forward Alone in their state of realization.

Worships of different forms is only a simple medium to increase the spiritual reflexes of mind. No form whatsoever is cursed as long as it adhere basic principles of living i.e. "Thou not Hate Creation as its Create by Me".
Even the criminals or thugs or prostitutes or terrorists or politicians are God's Own Creation and need not be seen with Hatred eyes.

Path of Enlightenment is to enlighten yourself first than looking at your neighbors. Once enlightened, your grace falls on others, you need not speak it out, it communicates through ether silently.

God is in everyone’s heart whether he/she has faith or not. To see him, one needs to close their eyes and looking inwards.
So long there is hunger, fear, uncertainties and death; so long there will be a Faith in God.

Dear Maximum...

Ignore the write ups (cut paste tricks) of people like testing life. These are inspired by what are taught in their madarassas. They spew venom on all the religeons other than their own with one point or other

i agree with farmers not getting recognition.
by anshu rai on Aug 13, 2008 02:58 AM  Permalink

farmers are really not getting recognition . They should be appreciated gives a good value in so called upper class. Have you ever learned that any farmer gets any reward from gov or so. now a days the conditin is no farmer wants their son to do farming they also wants them to be Dr , Engineer, and all the education courses nothing except that . They(farmers ) can also increase the economy of india if they are treated like a very important persons of the society. They need a more education ., Insurence for their crops so that they can go for testings, tell tehm how to grow a lot in small field a lot is theire to tell them . but education can never reach their. for this our system should be very strong very informative to them the local people and the educated children can help thier society . The gap between a Dr an engineer , an MBA, an It guru and a farmer should be filled how? this is the big challenge of GOVERMENT the only thing is they are not giving more concern on this side. but they have to. as if the same way population is going to divert from farm fields to metros . there would be no land to grow and nothing to eat we have to look for other countries to get even the grains also . This is a very serious issue and Goverment has to start giving some motivation n help n education to farmers. start some reward to farmers also like BHARAT RATN n all for them also as they r also doing a very humble work n have right to be recognised .
