Indian youth
by Awdhesh Kumar on Sep 24, 2008 10:28 AM  Permalink

We are educated and, not educated, at the same time. If education can make us extremists, to me, it is a curse on education.Present day terrorism, Naxalism, NE insurgency, past Punjab violence etc are examples in India where the smart, educated youth made the lives of a common man miserable.Situation in other countries like China, Nepal, Italy, France or even USA is no exception.
Where have we missed basically? youth or the system? To me, it is basically the education that needs a paradigm shift. Beginning is to be made byinculcating sensitivity and 'ethical values' in life, which is being ignored in today's education pattern.Every citizen is to be sensitive to the societal and national needs. We saw that India unites whenever there is external threat. But why not at the time of natural disasterm calamity, terrorism, insurgency, floods, ethnic violence and so on?
Fault lies in education system also as is rotten.Neither the students nor the teachers opt for studies, except for career. Necessity is to inbibe the curiosity among the students to know the things, rather than enthrusting over them a bundle of information, which to him, has no relevance in life.
Beginning has to be from the primary education level.Child should be left free to enjoy the nature and its beauty and express them to his imagination.Appreciating the sound of birds should creat anxiety within him to reproduce this sound on paper and thus the script sense.Likewise maths, science, bio, social sciences etc.

Recollect the time when Sachin had made India proud,if you could dance on that occassion, then you should be supportive of him, when he could not perform well. We should not deride of our own people.

DEVELOPMENT!
by Sahayaathrikan on Aug 16, 2008 01:22 PM  Permalink

Development is not having weapons and missiles, but creating friendship between countries. Development is not high-tech health care, but healthy living conditions that does not cause diseases and necessitates hospitals. Development is not count of rich men, but upbringing downtrodden by birth for no fault of theirs. Development is Sensex gambling, but sustained and steady growth.

sachin?
by sudha ramdas on Aug 16, 2008 01:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

what is so great? what did he do for the country? all other games lost its value. is cricket an individual's game? or a team game? who played the worst part for spoiling our own national game -- hockey? and football? do you mean to say that one sachin can make the whole team for hockey or football? please stop pampering only cricketers.. what is spent on other games? do compare and report. who is suresh raina to speak of sachin? why he does not comment on other sports? a true sportsman should not always cling to his leader only. show sportsmanship and save the country's honour. spend that much amount of money on otehr sports and see the difference. learn a lesson or two from the current olympics where china is scoring in all areas. spread your earnings to develop other sports raina and then see how they fare. start your coaching classes for other sports / games by coaching small children (like china does) and see after a couple of olympics where we move to. after that you can make such comments about one individual, because your mind will change then, when the truth comes out. sudhadas

hi sudha i absolutely agree with you....look at great britain, south korea, north korea and japans standing at the olympics.India should ban this game of cricket...only 9 fully fledged members in the world and that too india find it very difficult to win against a small country like sri lanka. What about P.T.Usha,Jyotirmoyee sikdar...do yu think they are less than sachin....sachin got the money attraction and funding everything...If P.T.usha or Jyitirmoyee sikdar and others have got proper funding then the story would have been different today...we indians are satisfied with this cheap and boring game of cricket only as we tend to get easily satisfied with anything....in fact i consider these olympic players especially the sprinters and boxers to be more talented than sachin because most of them come from a low mediocre class family and they fight their way through the indian politics in game and finally they perform against the best in the world..in olympics even t qualify for the next round you need to be special more special than sachin.....i hope the indian sports authority and IOA would give more importance to the players who have represented in the olympic this year for our country more than that of some bunch of 11 idiotic cricket players..

Sachin is a great player and will remain great forever. Atleast cricket is the game in which we can say proudly that India is ahead of many countries, otherwise in all other games we are far far behind from others. If hockey is not doing well, does it mean that we should blame cricket? It seems like a joke. We should try to improve hockey not just blame other games which is doing well. I don't see any connection between sachin's greatness and hockey or football's poor performance. Sachin is a role modal and he inspires cricketers around the world. Today people around the world know and respect sachin. it is a proud for India. Sachin has always been blamed and criticized for his popularity. If he is loved, is it his fault? Someone or other always target him for not making centuries, making India loose the game etc. Players from other countries, not only cricketers but from other games respect sachin but we Indians always criticize him. This just proves the correctness of the proverb that says "Ghar ki murgi dal barabar"

by Jayaprakash Balan on Aug 18, 2008 05:34 PM  Permalink
Yes, Farmer is a GOD to every Nation. But in INdia, the same GOD is the most humiliated, underrated, totally neglected and left to died. Especially a country like India where there so many mouths to be fed, the importance of farmers than any other professionals is only doubled. Imagine how flourishing India would be if the very lowest labour toiling in the fields to give us food gets a decent pay packet, eat good food, has a decent shelter and they too are able to have all the luxuries that any urban people like us can have. Imagine if farmers have the glamour of the film folks. Imagine the farmer using internet in his fields through Wifi. Imagine the farmer getting pension. These things are not impossible. It only requires the honesty and good heart of our Government, politicians, industrialists, enterpreneurs and each and every well off person to share a small pebble from their fortune to the farmers. I have always believed that our mother earth can give jobs to each and every person in India provided the above security, facilities and glamour is there in farming.

S Ray
by S Das on Aug 16, 2008 12:42 PM  Permalink

I thank rediff for including Ray. His work (including his detective stories for the Bengali youth) is deeply entrenched in the generation y and the baby boomer generation of west bengal. he is the epitome of the bengali bhadrolok lifestyle and views that drives a large middle-class section of pre-1970 born west bengalee. however gen x and 920 million indians havent seen or cannot understand his work. its a curious choice in that respect. infact its more curious if you see the movie industry today - regional or hindi we havent seen anything original since ardh satya.
