This is ironical, previous article, "Most under rated actors" http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2008/mar/19slide10.htm mentions Manoj Bajpai. He is also mentioned above as "overrated". Rediff are you serious in asking such question to us, or are just interested in increasing click count.
I think the first and the most deserving candidate for the most overrated actor is SRK. He is good for nothing. Next is salman khan and lots of others. I think these nominees are victims of SRK cadre or may be Sonia cadre. God save this politics..
Hassan is known for winning several Indian film awards, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, and has the distinction of being the actor with the most number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In addition to acting and directing, he is a screenwriter, lyricist, playback singer and choreographer.
Kamal is the only actor to receive four National Film Awards in India. He won his National awards for the films Nayagan, Moondram Pirai and Indian. He also won the national award for Best Child Actor for his performance in Kalathur Kannamma. He has also received the best actor award at the Asian Film festivals held in 1983 and 1985 for Saagara Sangamam and Swathi Muthyam respectively. Seven of his movies have been sent as India's official entry to the Oscars. Kamal has won the Filmfare awards 18 times. He was awarded the fourth highest recognition given to Indian civilians - the Padmashri in 1990. He was conferred an honorary doctorate by Sathyabama University, Chennai in 2005. Kamal was also conferred with a unique honour this year(2007) as "Living Legend" in the film business by FICCI,India. Kamal Hassan also was conferred the Nandi Award 20 times in his lifetime.
What more does he have to prove that he is the best in INDIA...... We all done big injustice to him.

" has the distinction of being the actor with the most number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film"
Yeah, but sadly none of his films have made it into the final four nomination in the oscars, golden globes,BAFTA. So great distinction but unfortunate results.
Alongside kamal hassan comes mohanlal. He is too malayalam what kamal is to tamil. But even in kerala kamal is well respected as he started his career as a choreographer in kerala.
First of all,the foolish people of rediff have put up the name of several good actors in their list as nomination for most over-rated actors...best examples - Kamal hassan, Amitabh bacchan, aamir khan,Rani maukherjee & manoj bajpai.....& they seem to forget those who r the one's who will win this award hands-down like : JOHN ABRAHAM,ESHA DEOL,IMRAN HASHMI,HIMESH RESHMIYA(insult to the word ACTOR),MALLIKA SHERAWAT, SALMAN KHAN,BIPASHA BASU

What Rediff means is that these actors have some kinda rating. We only tell if they are overrated. The others that you mentioned do not have any rating at all. ha ha ha.
RE:Rajnikanth

This is bad from you, Rajni Kanth was never called as a great actor by his fans, they call him super star, star and actor are two different words and Rajni fans never called him super actor .....
Coming to Mohanlal and mammooty they are the only true actors from India, they are actors not show men like SRK and Salman.....
They have awards to give them credit, SRK begs for awards or bribes the jury panel....
Salman - Zero acting skills yet got lot of movies. Forget overrating, he deserves no rating at all. John Abraham- Why does he always gives 'chin down-eyes up' looks? C'mon, thats not acting. You should do what suits you-modelling. Emran Hashmi-What is he doing in Bollywood? Acting and he are poles apart. He deserves no rating, over-rating is distant dream. Shahrukh- works mostly in KaranJ films, stereotyped role (girl snatcher or happy go lucky), no variety at all. Monotonous and predictable as someone already posted. Bobby Deol-Good that his films have stopped coming. It was pain to watch him act. KatrinaKaif-her proximity to another 'actor' should not qualify her to act in bollywood. Karishma Kapoor-She walked away with filmfare award for Dil to Pagal Hai. All her Govinda starer movies had cheap dialogues, nautanki style acting. Mallika Sherawat,Bipasha Basu- Babes, you got the definition of acting all wrong. It really means getting under the skin of the character' not showing your skin. The actors which rediff has mentioned above are not at all overrated. They are thousands of miles ahead of those listed in this post.
