rubbish statement by Jaya
by kunal kishor on Sep 08, 2008 08:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It was ridiculous of her saying "we are from UP so we'll speak in hindi". while this could still be tolerated, she adds "Maharashtrians may forgive us"..

and in the context, there was absolutely no need of either of the statements. To my mind, it could be a "cheap publicity stunt" or a very immature talking..

If you listen to the statement it clearly seems to be a provocation, and for the upcoming politician (goon), its a free advantage........... could I smell a nexus here?? Is it actually that the bachchans are helping Raj to keep going with his anti-hindi agitation?? (Remember, the two families had good ties until very recently, plus, as the anti-hindi stand *might* help Raj, the northies of Mumbai *may* unite under the SP flag)

Lets hope there is no violence against the innocents this time.

Even if the statement of Jaya Bachhan is cheap, there is apparently no offensive against the Maharashtrians as claimed by Mr. Raj Thackrey. May be it is only a reply to the individual Mr. Raj Thackrey. Sadly, an educated person like Mr. Raj Thackrey wants to get publicity to show that any personal attack (even if one were there) as an attack against the entire Maharashtrians. Secondly, the language reportedly used by him against Mrs Jaya Bachhan hardly shows any maturity as an young, upcoming leader of a political party.

jaya's comment

Neither Raj Thakarey nor any Maharashtrian has ever forced anyone to speak in Marathi. Which is why you will find that Mumbai is the only state capital where the local langauge is not spoken by all unlike all other state capitals. So also you will find Hindi being spoken in interior Maharahstra as well. Jaya's comment are purely to provoke and hence totally devoid of any class. Just look at the way she and Priyanka Chopra snigger after their comment. Even the socalled apology to Maharastrians is sniggering and not at all sincere.

SORRY U ARE HIGHLY MISTAKEN. PEOPLE SPEAK THEIR OWN LANGUAGE IN WHICHEVER STATE THEY LIVE. ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO LEARN NEW LANGUAGE.

I partly disagree. (I do not agree when u say Raj has not forced)

other than that, completely true and she MUST apologise to Maharashtra and to India.

Jaya's statement
by Sethu Raman on Sep 08, 2008 08:12 PM  Permalink

If you do not like a person you can find umpteen reasons to go against him/her. give a comparison how many know marathi and how many know Hindi, you will perhaps find the latter a larger contingent. people like Raj try to make themselves prominent by making such nuisances. Just ignore them - they will disappear.

UNWARRENTED
by keshav murthy on Sep 08, 2008 08:11 PM  Permalink

Jaya's comments are unwarrented and provocative. Had she said that she would speak in Hindi because the film is in Hindi and left it at that it would have been okay. Bringing in Marathi people and mentioning that they are UP people is insensitive to others feeling.
she would clear the atmosphere by tendering an unqualified apology.

Commonness of Indian Languages
by deepak on Sep 08, 2008 08:02 PM  Permalink

There is too much stress on differences of Indian languages rather than celebration of the commonality. Most Indian languages are Sanskrit dependent, including South Indian languages like Telugu, Kannada, Malaylam and even Tamil. The Devanagri script with little modification is used in all Indian languages except Urdu & Sindhi. Why Indian linguists & educationists failed to see this commonality is amazing. The Sanskrit script is used all over South Asia including Javanese, Thai, Burmeses etc...It is time to sit together and seek out what brings the languages together. Hindi drifting away to Urdu because of Bollywood makes the uniformity difficult. Hindi and Urdu should develop separately.

Jaya Bachan's statement
by tiya k on Sep 08, 2008 08:00 PM  Permalink

Jaya Bachan is plain stupid. There was absolutely no need to make that statement.
A clear indication of lack of class, culture and spirit of nationalism, just like many others who insist on regional language usage.
