What a Movie!!
by Guru on Sep 12, 2014 01:43 AM  Permalink

I just came across a scene on Youtube and decided to check-out the full length movie.
Its 1.40 am and a busy day tomorrow and believe me I couldn't get up before reaching till the very end...
Simple narration, simple and realistic depiction.. What an absorbing Movie.
And on a cue, I decided to check what rediff's review was.. and it was as expected!! Brainless review!

I caught Dil Dosti Etc as it was leaving the theatres in its second week. Some friends had watchetd the film and they asked us to check it out. I must say that the film was good and most new and real. The story was the center of it and any one calling it confused or brainless just did not see what was so good about the film. The story unfolds gently and without pretension. Great casting, acting and dircting. Also the delhi environment was captured well. The environment we live in was right there on screen to see. And then one noticed that girls too could enjoyed this film because ther e were not made boys after girls but girls too had a mind of their own. So my congratulations to this small and beautiful film and the filmmakers. Thank you.

Very Welll said. In fact, Bihbha, I think you are one of an audience which seeks essence in a movie instead of just the glamour and showbiz. I like your views. My email address is cheemaokeree@rediffmail.com. Drop in a line. I think we can be nice friends.

what was the director upto
by Vinod on Oct 08, 2007 03:46 PM  Permalink

There is a local saying..if u cant convince someone just confuse them. Dil,dosti, couldnt do either.
Though the director wanted to do something in the range of American beauty but couldnt even manage 1% of the masterpiece movie.
Frankly I'm still wondering what the director wanted to make or was trying to convey.

The plot is there is guy who is rich and ugly(however director somewhat feels he is cool). His main motive in life is SEX. There is no past or any logical reason given for this disgustingly normal behavior( Normal because everyone has sexual feelings at his age. Disgusting because not everyone goes to a 'kotha'to satisfy their carnal instinct. The few who go have some level of guilty feeling which this character doesnt seem to have. This behaviour can be seen only in the handful of filthy rich kids who doesnt seem to care about anything in life) of the central character. Still lets assume it is very normal for a person to sleep around. Now the second important character is of shreyas talpade. This character is portayed perfectly by the Iqbal actor.Though the relevance of this character is questionable. Apurva seems to respect sanjay for his leadership skills(though they not have not portrayed it properly.)and sanjay seems to be amused by sleeping around capabitlies of apurva. Infact he is critical about it. They dint show any other bonding between the two. No emotional dependance or no common liking. Nothing. They r freinds just for the sake of it. Still in the e

Wake up! Smell the coffee

Lets write more and to address in more specific ways
to call a realist film a C-grader which has not use an outward shine just to cheat you is the first sign of your mediorce capacity as a reviewer. You are one for that kind of film that believes in cheating audience into with rich sets and overdose of acting. That%u2019s why you think Shreyas Talpade restrained role of a guy from middle class Bihar is half-baked .
To sum up Imaad Shah%u2019 role as one doing %u2018bedroom duties%u2019 (say, sex? no big deal) is just not getting the point%u2026 not surprising then that you don%u2019t see drama (although you mention college herogiri%u2026).
Restrained performances are passionless for you %u2013 days of Sunny Deol are over madam! Wake up! Smell the coffee. You say there are designer tight tees for Apurv (were you wearing shades?) he is riding small bicke, does not want to show is fathers mercedez (got it so wrong)You%u2019re your response to punchlines watch with the audience and you%u2019ll see the reactions from any thing the lagdy Tyagi sayss%u2026 or the madeam from kotha%u2026
You say, - Smriti Mishra is a good. Ishita Sharma has a fresh and naughty presence and provides some smiles. Nikita Anand has potential. I say %u2013 Thank you but no thank you. We know better (NOW!).
You say, - Don't bother to visit. I say, Don%u2019t bother to write anymore. Get married. and if you are, please stay in!

by rahul paul on Oct 07, 2007 02:21 AM  Permalink

actually I dared to watch the movie, even after reading this review,....and believe me I was pleasantly surprised!!! Believe me its an excellent movie,...actually its a must watch for any college student. And am really disappointed tht rediff didnt do justice to such a nice movie with such a shit of a review. Great effort by d newcomer Imaad, and shreyas as usually is excellent....even d girls hav done a nice job,...especially i liked Ishita. And hats off to debutant director Manish Tiwary!!! This movie is as close to reality as it can be,...be it d university politics,...d attitude of d cosmopolitan youth,...every thing has been depicted beautifully!! Dont watch it if all u want to see is some brainless "typical" hindi movie stuff,...cuz thts not what it is.Its an unconventional film,...and demands some brains if u r to appreciate it!!!!!!!1

PERHAPS THE REVIEWER NEVER WENT TO COLLEGE - Sanjeev
by on Oct 06, 2007 08:02 AM  Permalink

Thank God I had not read the review before seeing the movie. Let me tell you, the movie depicts everything that goes on in the lives of those in the campus. I could relate with the film instantly although it has been seven years since I came out of the DU campus life. The film reminded me of my campus days.
Further, what Apurva has been shown in the movie is what every other "cosmopolitan & rich" guy around you is today. I come across Apurvas every other day.
The film is not out of sync but it what the campus is today. Make no mistake, the film does not preach but only depicts the state of things as they stand today in our modern society. And amidst this modernity, there is no dearth of sanjay Mishras either.
Great film Manish. We look forward for more such efforts.

Forget about Rucha review - Dil Dosti Etc is a masterpiece
by Sayali on Oct 04, 2007 02:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Perfect !!! Marvellous !!!
What to say .. Six on his first ball...
Such type of movie come safter a long...
The last 5-10 minutes are really really make this film a must watch..
What a timing .. what a story...what the acting !!! All are perfect !!

The story moves around the two guys-
One who respect his moral values !! Which has a meaning of love !! Which has a feeling for his family for his society -"The Mishra" !!
And other guy who doesn't want more from life...No social relations...No Future plans, Extremely careless and truly representing the most of the Todayz Metro guyz..
He just cann't do anything but to lure the girls and playing with them... - " The Apporva"

More of the interesting fact is that girls are also with him and believe in one night stand ...
The movie is very very real and ground to earth...It shows the true ...yes truth which is happeninig in our society...Boyz and girlz have no moral in them and they just know fun...

In the end the guy with morals have got what -" the Death " ... Is this what the person with value deserve !! The girl he love scheated him...
Uff...teh movie put a very good question before society !!!
U cud better understand if u saw the movie ...
Really u gonna stuck with it...
Shreyas talpadse and Imad Shah has done a Very very good Job !! Especially the Imad - who shows the great stamina in him like his father...

Hi Sayali, I don't think that you are doing justice to the male sect by classifying everybody as just Mishra or Apoorva. There are different kinds of people--in fact, everybody including you and me is a unique person. The point is--Does life always give us what we want after we have put in so many stakes? Neither Mishra nor Apoorva got. In fact, neither you or I might have been that lucky always. So, what to do--You say. I would love to hear. Drop in a line at cheemaokeree@rediffmail.com
