Are you suggesting that just because a movie, in your subjective assessment strikes a chord?? we in India, are bound to support the movie? I have a lot of respect for your articles on a wide variety of topics, diaspora specific or not, but this article suggests that you need to take a breather, come back refreshed and take a relook. No body is forced to settle in Amricka, everyone who has has followed a self interest paradigm. I have absolutely no sympathy.
I have most members of my close family livng in the US for more than thirty years. This movie is so realistic to me. It is eternal discussion in our household...which is better? US or India to live? etc. I liked Tabu's performance. Atlast some one decided to show on big screen...our story.

Dear Prabul, your response does not reflect true culture of Bongs as I know them (And I know many).

Your letter to Chabbhra is in extreme bad taste. It is not clear what you are talking about re culture etc. When you are talking about Indianness as a whole & not any particular Indian community, is it in good taste to talk about punjabis like that? Suby Chaterji.

Mitra and Raja, appreciate your so-called honest opinion. Well KANK is the best for you guys. Have fun watching them.
When I read The Namesake,I thought it was one of the most beautiful stories ever.I was surprised and completely in awe of Mira Nair when I saw the film as it was even better than the book.Irfan Khan and Tabu were brilliant! This is one movie which truly deserves an Academy Award more than any of the films of recent times.
Is this movie similar to Fire, Earth, Water, Morning Raga etc? I am very sceptical about bollywood movies after the film industry starting producing such movies.
I am sorry to say that Jhumpa Lahiri'w writing is very ordinary, unfortunately that is true with most Indian writers. The English / American authors have more continuity and more fluid in their writing than their Indian counterparts.
