While I do accept that this movie is not perfect, I can't help but adore it.
No, I'm not a guy and I'm usually rather squeamish when it comes to blood and gore (was nauseous through most of Kill Bill 1), but I found the violence in this movie tastefully done. And the music rocked!
I've seen the Frank Miller graphic novel and this is a well-done adaptation. The movie never intended to be historically accurate. It was meant to be the portrayal of a legend as narrated by Dilios, who mixes fantasy with the truth.
The line "We will fight in the shade" is reputed to be fact, although not said by a Stelios. Also Gerard Butler's "Come and get them" is also said to have come from the real Leonidas. Queen Gorgo is quoted as follows: "When asked by a woman from Attica, 'Why are you Spartan women the only ones who can rule men?', she said: 'Because we are also the only ones who give birth to men.'" My point is some of the clunky punchlined dialogue do have some sort of historical basis.
As a girl, I have to admit that the eye-candy in this movie is fantastic. Made the battle scenes very palatable. As for the guys, they'll get some skin show too - fortunate for them, I guess?
For a movie shot on such a low budget (the consequence of the failures of "Troy" and "Alexander")it is incredibly watchable.
I din liked this movie because it was so much with all fights and blood all over..........and you can't realte to it. End is all sad which leaves u in a bad mood. this one is for those who like muscular body and fights.
This movie is logically wrong. There was no good reason provided to start a war except that the mesenger brought skulls to scare them. Sparta king looked silly in chosing a war. I havent read the book. But this movie shows Asians as stupid carrying weird animals with them. This movie just didnt make any sense whatever the merit of the book is. The death metal they played in background score was again a weird choice for music.
Overall its just a plain vanilla animation meets movie.
like a poetic battle like a beautiful painting from baroque times eroticism at best not pornography but art indians can learn from this after all it was india who was the first country to teach the world about sex as an art
mr varma and amitab notes required
even you can show bear behinds and look artistic unlike nishabd
a must see for real cinema lovers
no story excites every sense in you
the rediff reviewer had air conditioning on maybe or some other medical problems
cheers watch it and go to heaven od visual nirvana
Another war movie, made in graphic details in all the glory and gore. Visually grand but histrorically, a fraud and insincere depiction of history.A purposeful depiction of the Persians as savages. Xerxes himself did not look like the ornated mannequin he is shown as in the movie. The Persians then were a population and kingdom led by Zoroastrian beliefs, not the savagery they are depicted to be indulgent in the film. But then friendsm, thats what hollywood does when some of its filmmakers decide to bat for the US government. In the Cold-war days all villains and murderers were Russians, after Sept.11 all of them changed to Arabs and now with the US stand-off against Iran(Persians)on the nuclear issue, its not surprising that an American movie comes up distorting history to project worldwide the Persians as butchers and blood-thirsty war-mongers. The US govt warmachine seems to gain everything, even through box-office.
